Poyet admits he has his work cut out persuading some of his targets to give the North-East a go

Exactly. That's the mentality of some Southerners.

They aren't known for their brains but I doubt footballers will base it solely on location. Money will be the biggest pull for starters.

I used to work with some one from Newcastle, who was surprised to find out that Sunderland had a beach

Given your name irony?
FairPlay, but it was never meant the way you interpret it.

The biggest attraction for players are trophies, or I should say, the possibilities of winning them and seeing as we are always on the outskirts of relegation, don't look a likely prospect, of course money and location count, but that would be forgotten if we were a club that were up there winning things.
And yes, there's a massive difference between the weather here and London.
Aye QPR are swimming in trophies. If Gus couldn't persuade him to sign for footballing reasons, then he's just a mercenary, and would have probably let us down. Not all South American players will have that attitude though, so our scouts need to do their homework first.

'life in one of the world’s great city’s.'

Oh deary me, a grocer's apostrophe in a national 'newspaper'. It's a horrible rag, I've never understood why anyone would ever buy it. We all know The Sun is shit but at least it's honest about being a comic. The Mirror tries to pass itself off as a serious paper, when in reality it's The Sun without the wit/entertainment factor.

Haway it's not the copafuckingcobana!

Thank God.

Wasn't long ago Wickham was on twitter saying he was bored shitless cos there was fuck all up here.

Stupid/lazy people get bored easily because they lack the gumption and motivation to find something to do themselves. They need to be spoon fed entertainment or activities like toddlers.

I've lived in the NE all my life (except for a fortunately brief time as a kid in Leicester) and I am never bored unless I'm to ill to do anything. There's always my hobbies for starters, and loads of other stuff I can be doing.

Me fatha swears blind that every time he comes down here to Selby, it's positively balmy compared to 'the Lane'.
I was in Selby on Thursday the weather was changeable but warm. They've shut the bloody bowling alley though and we ended up at that place on Clifton moor.

It was the Blair labour government that did for Sunderland, killed the city single handedly

Sunderland is better now & has been over the last 10 years, than it was in the 80's & early 90's

So "New Labour" invested all that money on Tyneside, what did they do for Sunderland, did they bring Nissan to the region?

No that was 'old' Labour

Sunderland as a city wont improve until their residents realise they are living in one of the most deprived cities in Western Europe and do something about it. It is light years behind Newcastle! With in my opinion Sunderland council is the worst council in the North East, even council like South Tyneside and Hartlepool beat them hands down.

Based on what? I've worked with a number of Hartlepudlians, who'll openly admit that Sunderland pisses all over Hartlepool as a shopping centre.

I think you have a point about the residents. There's only so much councils can do. The people of Sunderland whinge like out, then when something comes along, they don't support it & when it fails, they'll blame the council. If the Sunderland folk don't support the place, it won't improve.

You only have to read the comments on the Echo's site. People will openly gloat that they haven't shopped in the town for 20 years, & then blame the council for the towns faillings.

Hartlepool is a third smaller than Sunderland so no surprise their shopping centre is smaller, but they did have the vision to get the Tall Ship Race to Hartlepool, let see if Sunderland Council can pull that off. They have not shop in Sunderland because the shops on offer are so piss poor.

Tell me were you can buy a decent suit, shirt or pair of shoes in Sunderland.

It is being looked into.

And there's plenty of shops you can buy clothes from

Like, they looked into doing something with the Vaux site how long was that 10.11, 12 years.

But none you can buy a decent suit or pair of shoes.!! No John Lewis, No Fenwicks.

Sunderland started to die when Sunderland Council did nowt about Binns closing, eventually replaced by Wilkinsons FFS!!!

Bit harsh, Vaux was mainly the fault of Tesco land grabbing.

and Sunderland has most big names like Debenhams, M&S & Top Shop

Not harsh, Tesco just out thought them, would'nt be hard. It should never have got in their (Tesco's) hands in the first place, The council should of bought it off Whitbread!!
Knew you would mention Debenhams, average at best, the M&S is one of the worst in the North East. Durham has a better M&S.. Come to Sunderland Borini, there is a Top Shop!! You have a point it will be a new experience for him!!

The fact is, no one knows the exact ins & outs of the Vaux sale. It's far too easy for to easy to blame the council for what was a private sale.
Some people on here have claimed was much lower than what the Echo reported the council tried to buy for at the time.

As for M&S they all sell the same stuff, if Sunderland don't have it in, you can order online & pickup.
