Potholes

This is what happens when council budgets are slashed by an ideological government who don’t like the thought of spending on its facilities but would rather give tax breaks to donors.

I hit one the other day and genuinely thought I’d fucked the axle of the car.
Politics forum please.

Just one more thing to add to the list of things that don’t work anymore. Potholes get filled but next winter they reappear bigger than ever. Lethal for cyclists and motorcyclists.

I have to travel 5 miles all directions on B roads to get to an A road...averaging two broken springs a year...and I have a f**k off big 4x4.

If a pothole has been reported twice to a council, they are liable for damages to cars.

Sort of. It depends on the depth I believe? There used to be different categories, not sure if that is still the case.

People moan like fuck but don't report them. Anything I've reported, pot holes and fallen trees recently, have been done almost immediately.

Councils inspect roads but often months apart, if things aren't reported they don't get sorted.

My son accidentally put his foot in a pothole and fell last weekend. He already had a weak knee from a football injury but it's flared up badly. The GP is sending him for a scan on it.

Or water seeping into the cracks, freezing and expanding so making the tarmac crumble…. It could be this too.

Hot some going along follingsby lane and the tyres literally deflated as I pulled up outside of the house. It needed a wheel and 2 tyres,by the time I went back to take photos I couldn't find them or they had been filled in. Thank fuck it was just a company car, cost £600

A couple of weeks ago on a road near Chichester there were 2 cars sat at the side of the road with their hazards on, both had damaged wheel. It's a 60mph limit and because it was raining I don't think they realised how deep the pot hole was.

Combination of councils being skint and people driving much heavier cars these days than at any time before. Can't see anything other than a continued decline.

Well yes, obviously this is what causes them. But councils having to cut back on staff and equipment to repair them means they sit there getting worse for weeks/months.

it'll be those electric cars weighing a lot more that's causing this.
They'll make a difference in the long run, but they're only a small percentage of all cars on the roads as it stands. I would have thought the SUV craze will be doing far more damage at the moment.

On a related note, companies laying fibre broadband who dig up perfectly good pavements and then spend about 20 seconds per hole filling them in while wearing a blindfold with a cheap and - importantly - different colour.

There’s a shocking road in Birtley for this, you can feel the car bobble all the way down the road and visibly see other cars wheels bobble up and down as they drive past when I’m out with the dog.
