Without getting carried away by our current league position and relying on that to decide, which teams do you think we are now better than and how much potential do you think we have to progress even further?
While trying my best to be objective and bearing in mind the abject performances against WHU in the cup, WBA away and that other game, I think we are achieving a level of consistency that makes us a better team than the following:
Villa - cash strapped and inconsistent
Everton - as above, but very well organised, with some great players/match winners and likely to be close to us by the end of the season. However their long term future hinges on a sugar daddy building them a new ground.
Fulham - Leaking goals and not scoring enough and unlikely to have much cash to put this right
Stoke - One dimensional, but effective team, who have been figured out but are still difficult to defend against. Wouldn't want us to finish top 7 at the expense of watching their style every weak.
Wolves - Mic Mac has a couple of jewels in there and he is making a silk purse out of a sows ear with them, but not enough depth or goal scorers
Wist Ham - Doomed if Parker leaves and maybe doomed if he doesn't.
Blackburn - Punched above their weight for a while, with the current owners looking destined to put them above NUFC in the comedy stakes
Bolton - Reverted to type last week, but a lot of potential with OC in charge if they can invest
Blackpool - A lot of turd polishing has gone on by IH and like Wolves, have a few good players, but key injuries will see them sink down the league ala Hull City.
Newcastle United - Who knows with Ashley at the helm and a new joke management appointment. Some match winners in their team, but lack depth and could plummet if Carroll gets injured or sold.
Birmingham City - Have a good manager, but lack goal scorers. Have been dragged into a morale sapping relegation battle, but I anticipate them scraping clear.
Wigan Athletic - Bank rolled by chairman and sky money but with a canny manager. Surely their business plan is unsustainable and will soon disappear.
WBA - Playing some canny stuff and like ourselves have had some surprising results against the big boys. They may well be snapping at our heals, but again squad quality and size could play a part.
The rest:
Man Yoo - Need Rooney to start scoring soon or will not win the league but comfortably top 3 finish
Arsenal - Best footballers in the league, but fragile temperaments will be the key to their title challenge
Chelski - Baffling demise (relatively speaking) in the league with Drogba's form the key. May end up scrapping for position with Spurs.
Spurs - Refreshing to watch and love or loathe him, Arry has got them ticking. Champions league commitments might see them fall away in the league if they get injuries or start resting key men. They will have barrow loads of cash in the summer to improve further too and could go on to become genuine challengers in the next two seasons.
Liverpool - Oh dear. The city of pity must be livid. They will finish above us if SG and FT can be kept fit.
Us:
We are a set piece specialist and left sided midfielder away from bossing the mini league below 6th place and may even boss it without improvements providing our young squad can remain consistent.
Out of all of the teams currently below us, I genuinely believe that we have the most potential to improve further on and off the field.
