To all tech- savvy mushes out there, please help
I have a Toshiba 2Tb HD. It was working choss in my laptop. Now it won't appear in the explorer. If I eject it and put it into my pal's computer it works fine. I can still find it in disk manger, and also in the eject safely button, but can't go into it- any suggestions?
Cheers

Does it show any errors in Disk Management (right click Computer and choose Manage, then select Disk Management)?

If you go to the event viewer (search eventvwr) are there any errors under the Application or system logs?

If they are all okay, try uninstalling the device. Go to device manager in control panel, expand your USB controllers and look for the device, right-click and uninstall. Disconnect and reconnect to reinstall the driver to that USB port.

Conflict maybe with something else. Unplug all other USB devices and try it, then plug back one by one.

Loads of errors all saying this- Failed extract of third- party root list from auto update cab at:<http://ctldl.windowsupdate.com. with error: the data is invalid

Appears in computer management disk manager tab, Healthy (Primary Partition) and can be explored from there, but not in my computer- how bizarre

Unrelated to your disk that one. You can auto-fix that error using the fixme on this link. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...-11-is-logged-in-the-application-log-in-windo

Given no errors for the disk, I would try the uninstall from device manager or try @Sleepy suggestion of removing other usb peripherals if any are attached.

Weird- it has now appeared in the Network Drives section of my computer, and can be explored
It works, so I will manage.
Thanks for the suggestions

Did you have any network drives mapped previously? It normally shows as a network drive if it is sharing a drive letter with a previously mapped network share. If you go to disk management, right-click the partition on the disk and change its drive letter describing it reappear as a removable drive?

Have you another HD attached to PC at the same time?

Delete all the porn from it, you're overloading your computer and its objecting. ;)

I recently had a flash stick behave the same way. It worked on an old USB 2 port but not an USB 3 port.

I was advised on here to clean the USB connector with a tooth brush and isopropyl alcohol. I also took a very fine grade emery paper very gently to the contacts in the connector to clean off any harder deposits and oxidation.

The flash drive worked immediately after, allowing me to retrieve it's data.

I still bought a replacement, with the old drive being for unimportant stuff.

You might also check other devices on both computers to be sure of the cause. It might also be the port. on the computer.

If, as has been said, it's a drive letter conflict, you can manually assign a drive letter in the drive management panel.

Might be worth trying a few different letters.

If it's a porn overload you'll have to hoy it in a bucket of hot soapy water to clean all the filth off

You also have to tell your mam to clear your reputation cache

Nee smut on it ya mucky bassas, just loads of *legally owned* fillums
Cheers for the help, will tackle today
