Pompey travel for the players

I used to live just outside Newbury and your route is the one I would take to come back to Sunderland, just never really thought about it going further south.

It used to be hellish before the A34 was widened and the M3 link round Winchester was built. Nowadays, it's pretty smooth most of the time. Used to go that way from Brum/Bristol if we were catching a cross-Channel ferry from Portsmouth.

Make sure you avoid the bottom of the M3/A34 on Friday afternoons in summer - the traffic jams there with all the Londoners heading off to the south coast and the new forest can often take an hour to get through.... you can usually save time by heading off the A34 north of Winchester and heading round the city; that is slow but still faster than the A34/M3 junction.

That's the only place we ever had any trouble, but I always factored it in. Most of the time it wasn't a problem, and we spent ages getting bored in the ferry port instead ;)

Just had message that team flew from Teesside airport this morning.
