John Bostock. Played Championship football at 15 for Palace then went to Spurs. Half decent in Belguim and France. Think the last I heard he was at Doncaster.

Michael Johnson and Ravel Morrison at City and United were both tipped to be top class. Morrison had the wrong people around him and should have done a lot better. Seems like he's had a decent enough career and playing under Rooney at Derby. Johnson was an alcoholic by his mid 20's, some come down from Didi Hamman saying he was a better prospect than Gerrard and Ballack.

Danny Cadamarteri was considered a better prospect than Jeffers iirc. Scored on his debut at Anfield then bounced around the lower divisions.

Kevin Arnott - he could have played for England. At 19 his direct opponents in 3 consecutive games were Souness, Bryan Robson and Trevor Brooking in games we won 4-0, 6-1 and 6-0 and he bossed all of them. In 1980/81 he was fantastic in that first half season in the top flight. England B recognition and still only 21. Then he just dropped down the leagues and was effectively finished at 26/27 playing for the likes of Chesterfield against us in the 3rd division. Drink didn't help.

9 goals and 6 assists this season at 34 years old..8 games in Europe

Played his second most games in a European campaign last season at 33 years old

Played in Europe for 13+ straight seasons
Nowhere near as good as when he first broke through

Lots of players listed here who just never fulfilled their potential or just were over hyped in the first place. Don't think the likes of Ravel Morrison, Macheda or Freddy Adu were ever 'class' as the thread title asks for.

Torres
Owen
Alan Smith
