Players that went completely to shit

Boro got lumbered with a fat lad not interested in football as his dad was minted.

Wasn't he quoted as the worlds richest footballer by some - based on his fathers wealth?

And was last seen (unless I'm mistaken) on a football pitch struggling to get a game for Barnsley. Very definitely a contender in this thread.

Before or during their peak.

And I don't mean individuals who had only had one good season so may have been returning to par, but individuals who had a number of very good years early on in their careers then just fell apart around 25.

Like Bentley.

Who else do we have?

David Bentley is at Global Gathering backstage dressed as a lifeguard, wasted his career.

Nii Lamptey- he was the boy on Champ Man c2000. :)

Keith Gillespie on there is a good shout too. He looked some talent and I was really surprised Ferguson let him go. Like it says though, the gambling and charlie did it for him.

Lee Sharpe was a good shout too. I think he looked a great left winger, but he fell to pieces after going to Leeds.

How about Kanchelskis? He looked amazing and did nowt after leaving Man United. I suppose it all goes to show that, injuries aside it's management and keeping them on track off the field which makes all of the difference.

Brazil kept throwing him on for the last 5 minutes during their Confederations Cup games and he'd pop up and score. Must have played 20 minutes maximum and scored twice from what I remember (possibly 3 times).

can we include Richard Wright? Or was he ageing a bit when he left Ipswich in which case deteriorating because of his age is natural?

I think he was only 24 or so when he went to Arsenal. He was a waste too.

Little Charlie N'zogbia (or was it insomnia?) hasn't been up to snuff since his promising start. Of course that means Bruce wants to finally pick him up.

For us Americans, Oguchi Onyewu. Played his way into a contract at AC Milan and ended up never even playing a game for them. Bad knee injury was partly to blame.

Rade Prica... stunning debut then nothing since. He could've been our number one striker for years to come. What a waste.

Kanchelskis had two cracking seasons at Everton scoring a canny few and a lot of assists

Lee Sharpe had already fell to bits at Man U before going to Leeds something to do with alleged meningitis ;)

Royston Drenthe. Once of Real Madrid, now plays for.................wait for it................Reading. Still only 26 as well.
