A new manager comes in and at the start he is in a very strong position. He has the power in the dressing room. Suddenly players who have been under performing start to bust a gut and the results improve overnight. The new bloke is hailed as a hero.

Of course things at some point go wrong - such is life - and the manager isn't quite as firm a favorite.

As time goes on the performance of many players starts to falter and there's not much the manager can really do. He pushes them, then challenges them but they know that he is not in anywhere near as strong a position. By the time he gets round to giving them a public blast to start performing they know he is a dead man walking. That it is just a matter of time because these days the owner, media and fans wont risk wait for any improvment cos the money in the Premier League is so high. And after all he cant get rid of all of them.

He is fired and a new bloke comes in. It starts all over again

Pity we can't get shot a few of players as easy as we do the managers

New manager every fortnight should see us win the PL then ! Easy

Only maybe a handful of players have played well enough this season.

I agree, a lot of them are letting us down weekly. They're not trying hard enough and putting the ball in the back of the net enough. They've done fuck all to make life easier for fans and the manager.

But they're off the hook right now because Poyet is the new scapegoat.

Well done lads.

I've been as critical as anyone on here at times about the players being too quick to throw in the towel in at various points in the last few years but Southampton aside, when Mannone said publicly that he stopped trying, I can't really fault them for effort this season.

Our biggest problem this season has been Poyet's laughably defensive tactics. At least last season he tried to set us up to have a go at teams, even though we often weren't good enough to do so but we've been far too defensive in most games this season.

Poyet has put himself in the firing line by doing what he's doing

This is what Keane used to go on about. You need to sign the right type of characters. Obviously he failed to take his own advice and signed people like diouf but it was a decent theory.

Nobody want's to knuckle down at the Sunderland leisure and retirement camp, why should they? you only need to beat the mags and avoid relegation and it's feet up and a few beers with the boys.
