I was in the clock stand paddock.

Can only remember Hardyman kickin' that twat Burridge in the head when he missed the penalty

OOPs - wrong forum.
Mags fans near me in the clockstand towards the Fulwell when the penna was saved they ran up the steps and onto the little track bit

The other leg at the same time saw Swindon take a 2-1 away win at Blackburn.
The second goal an absolute screamer.

The best Swindon team I have ever watched. Better than the Hoddle side a few years later. Sadly took it all for granted then.
After Gabbiadini hit on shot on the turn over the bar we could't get the ball off you. As 1-0 results go it was a mullering

Yes I remember the first 5 minutes was even. Played well that day.
Said if before on here, your Supporters were simply magnificent.
Made a massive impression on our Supporters after the game, so many coming up to us and congratulating us.
If we had to give up our place then could not have gone to a better club than you.

We've always been good losers. Same against Norwich and Charlton. Best team won, we never turned up against Swindon and you played well.

When people say we're not too disimilar to the mags they should remember the way we accept defeat and the way they invade the pitch (FA cup v Notts Forest '75 too) and repeatedly smash up there city.

Sunderland has all the class in North East football.

The play off at Roker Park was a class, tough, dirty game iirc. I particularly remember Gary Owers nearly snapping Billy Askew in half early on.

Apologies to DIRTY BRISTOW - you are 100% correct ref the play off semi final - as you look from the Fulwell End, Sunderland were in the RHS of the RE, scum were in middle, and the little section under the scoreboard was kept as an overspill area.

The league game in Sept 89 though, I am certain was given up 100 pc to the scum.

At 7-8 seconds on that clip you can see the Roker has a long line of police between the centre section and the corner. Also at the very end a bottle flies across towards the corner as well.
Suggests they only had the centre. My old brain can't remember what they had .

I saw the bottle as well but didn't want this turning into a hoolie thread ;)

Like a knacker I was in the Leazes End in 76 with my dad and in the gallowgate with my skunk mate in 1980. Living in Birtley it was easier to get tickets in their end than ours

Funnily enough I was in the big paddock with the Mags for both games similar to you with me dad in 76 and then with Mag mates- I had them then in 1980 - nearly got hurt celebrating Sunderlands goal that day.

Are you sure cos we couldn't get tickets so I queued at St James one dinner time and got tickets for their paddock.

Absolutely certain, mate.

We couldn't get to the ticket office being from East Durham and at college during the day.

I went up at night and remember it being like a nice summer's day. It was starting to get dark if I remember rightly.

They were selling the tickets from the Clockstand Paddocks turnstyles which thinking about it fuck knows why.

There weren't many buying tickets and when I asked the lass said plenty left.

What hasn't been said is that I don't think they sold out. We got there late on the night so the only space left for us was over to the left of the Leazes. We were right by them and there was easily enough room for another 500.

Thats bollocks they went on sale on the Saturday before the first leg and sold out - you had to be outside of the ground at 4 in the morning and they sold them through the turnstiles,

See my post above.

Bollocks. See my post. I was at college and couldn't get up until night.

It's not what I think you fuckin' bell end, it's what I know.

I went up on the night, after college, to get our tickets.

Play Off 1st Leg Ticket Arrangements

Tickets for the 1st leg went on sale to members 7pm to 9pm on the Thursday and Friday before the game from the relevant turnstiles around the ground (eg CS tickets from CS turnstiles, FE tickets from FE turnstiles etc). They would have been on sale at the ticket office first to ST holders a day or two before that.

Play Off 2nd Leg Ticket Arrangements

Tickets for the 2nd leg went on sale to members at 10am on the Saturday before the game from the FE turnstiles. They would have been on sale at the ticket office first to ST holders a day or two before that. This was the season before FE season tickets were available so we would have only had a few thousand MS and CS ST holders then - hence there being enough left for them to go on sale to members.

I arrived at maybe 10.30ish on that Saturday morning and queued for around 30 mins for mine. My assumption at the time was that all remaining tickets for the 2nd leg would have been sold that morning. However, I don't know for certain if that was the case. I suppose it was possible that some remaining tickets were sold on the Monday/Tuesday.

Can anyone remember what the allocation / arrangements for the 2nd leg were ?

I wasn't there, but I was in 76, 80, 85 and countless shit games in the 90s so I can't remember why I didn't get a ticket as I was a season ticket holder. I have never seen us win at Sid James

I woke up on my living room floor at 4am clutching an empty bottle of vodka

Likewise, I have no idea how I got a ticket without any bother, as I wasnt a season ticket holder at the time. It was off a mate (who was), but have always wondered how he got a ticket apparently without any problem. It was probably your ticket come to think of it.

He has a history of getting this stuff wrong.
