Play off games v Average attendances

Yes I’m aware of this, my very first season I bought 19 tickets (PL) game by game. I have no issue with them, I’ve never slated any fans at all. The reason I find it funny is because muffin has been going on all week about fans missing game, preaching from his ivory tower like he’s never missed a game in his life. Only to find out he’s only had a season ticket for 1 season and can’t get himself a portsmouth away ticket cos he hasn’t got enough points.

Ha ha, talk about twisting what has actually been said.....Never once have I said have never missed a game, not once. Not once have I criticised our support all season as its been immense.....What I have criticised is people who are openly stating they arent going to the biggest game of the season because the football and team is crap, for me that it f***ing shit. We have a group of largely league 1 players and young lads who have busted their arses this season. They have come up short in terms of automatic promotion but we have a 2nd chance....I will never ever understand people slagging those lads off and bailing on them at this stage.

Find the whole thing distasteful

Its not exactly been entertaining this year has it, people probably drained.

Im sure they will recover if we get to Wembley though ;)

Not saying that either.....We have bigger support than Leeds, that is clear and impressive....I just dont understand why that support has dropped off for the biggest game of the season.

I have been provocative with this and will admit that it has pissed me off as I just dont get it. I think a relatively limited bunch of players have grafted their nuts off all season and the fans and players seem to have created a real togetherness......I just feel gutted that when we are just a couple of games away from promotion shit loads decide to sack it off.

You must understand though surely?

Long season, faltering results, people bit tired of the PR drive, it makes sense like

I wanted to go and I am going, but I don't think its a massive mystery, you are a passionate fan and want a big crowd and atmosphere I get that, but don't be too critical of people, they've backed the team all year and its not been great entertainment really, hard working and effort aye for sure.

Which I don't have a problem with personally, but that is just me.

Some people want to go but can't justify it when they may have an expensive Wembley trip to pay for.

I'm not sure I buy this 'justifying' thing tbh. Not being able to justify a dead rubber down at Southend is one thing, but this is a play off semi final at home.

Each to their own though.

This.

Pretty much every post the OP ever makes is slating our fans or calling people names. It started well before we even qualified for the playoffs as well. This is just another excuse to have a go.

To be fair, only posts I made about our fans before poor attendance ones was recent abuse of owners/manager and players.....It was over the top and bang out of order.....Some fuckers were calling Ross scum while others apparently sent the owner death threats in January. WTF is that all about?

It may be 'at home' for you, it's a 400 mile round trip for me.

We drove back from the Portsmouth league game and there were loads of Sunderland on the A19 and A1.

We turned off at Worksop and waved to people carrying on, not everyone lives on Bridge Street

I confess that I don't travel to away games but have two season cards and travel from Northumberland to the games. I am absolutely devastated that we are in the third division but we can only play the cards that we are dealt and after the last few seasons I must admit I have enjoyed the games this season. I can understand people who have financial or other commitments preventing them from going to this game, but for the life of me I can't understand people just not bothering to turn up, it's like reading a book with the last page torn out.

Our fans have become more obsessed with attendances than the mags

I think a low crowd would be a massive kick in the teeth for the players and management/owners.....Its been a mad 12 months, we have come back from the abyss and are potentially 3 games away from promotion. I just dont understand why some people would sit in the pub rather than go to the game and support their team.

Happy to bank transfer and 100% trust you in terms of tickets as I know you have sorted people before......Long way to travel when somebody could break down, get pissed and forget (I would do this) etc.

No, on reflection, our crowds this season have shown we are the loyalist in the country.[/QUOTE]

No way this guy for real. Handed second leg semi final ticket on a plate and offers the lamest of excuses. Might only have been going to home matches for a season but hes never been to an away one,

I think some of our fans liked the idea if lording it over league one for a season as a bit of a novelty.

When we didn't kick on and take one of the top two spots but ended up finishing fifth the charm wore off.

If we make it up via the play offs I will be thrilled and look at it as "job done" but some have hoyed their toys right out of the pram and I don't think they will feel the same.

Good analysis ^

But nobody is having a pop at people doing that, there are clearly thousands of people who do live in Sunderland who are just sacking off this game though. If im honest I would have completely got it if it had been the 2nd leg as its short notice and we are always down on attendances midweek....But this is a Saturday game....I even posted a thread before Saturday saying maybe it would be better to end up playing at home first because it is a Saturday and I knew the crowd would be much better which deffo gives us and advantage, well it did

It's a 200 mile round trip for me, as have been the other 23 home games. That's semantics.

Mate, you do it all the time regardless. Every subject is turned into a pop at our fans, and when you aren't doing that you spend most of the rest of your time calling people thick etc if they don't agree with you. It's constant.

Jesus christ this is boring, people banging on same old shit all over. Blaming the fans. It's funny coz the same people probably been saying we have the best fans in the world for smashing league 1 attendance records and selling out every away game. Then with a week notice on a Saturday night (the main time people make plans for) without having 20+ k tickets already sold to season ticket holders theres hell on. And it's probably only gonna be a couple thousand less than normal.sick of seeing people having to justify themselves or being labelled shit fans

And yet Im criticised constantly for being a happy clapper too?

Every club gets the same notice and are selling comparitively more than we have. All clubs sell more for play off games, we are likely to see a 20% or more lower crowd than our average, that is just weird.

I have sympathy to be fair the novelty has worn off for some I guess

Why dont you reverse that and say we've sold a lot more than we should have all season
