We had one built a couple of years ago. Needed planning permission but it was applied for retrospectively after the conservatory was built because it didn't breach guidelines and couldn't be turned down. Had the bloke from the council come out and inspect it afterwards to make sure it met building regs (we had to change the windows that looked onto next door from clear to obscure glass). Apart from that everything went ok and was a wise investment, extra room for £4k and a nice place to sit and read The Times on a warm day.

you'll need planning permission for the sun room you put in its place when you knock the conservatory down after realising that they are shite

It cost us £5k to put a roof on our sun room so you have got a good deal there.

Agree, sun rooms can be used in winter too.
