Places you felt most on edge in your life

Woke up still pissed in Barcelona just off la ramblas in a shithole hotel, about 4.30 in the morning. Went to buy a bottle of water. Got offered coke by a bloke about 6'4 by 6'4 on the way. Some kid asked me the time twice and wouldn't fuck off, wanting to shake my hand. My 100 yard annoyed stare must've been enough for him to decide it wasn't worth getting stabby or me declaring that I don't have any money, but I was expecting to get jumped with no one around, cos he didn't look like he was going to leave me alone. We also witnessed a few fights with belts used as a weapon later that night. The whole place was a bit stabby.

Buenos Aires
I went to a boca game and a racing game. Thank god I paid for a package and got bussed in and out. Even then the bit from the bus to the ground was eye opening.

Rome
On the tram to the ground I saw other english men had their possessions stolen. They were in groups and I was alone. So I would have been an easier target.

Coventry
After the away game last season the police told me to go the wrong way and I nearly walked into a big fight. A policeman then tried to man handle me for going against his advice until about 5 seconds later he saw where the coventry fans were

I've really had no bother in Glasgow and I've spent 2 out of the last 6 years there. Govan Hill mentioned earlier, which I drive through into work isn't that bad on a night, just full of scruffy twats that throw their rubbish like old beds out onto the street.

If you don't talk about religion and just tell people you're a Sunderland supporter and don't have a 2nd team people are the friendliest (albeit lazy, workshy, unhealthy) funniest people I've ever worked with. I've also found the door staff to be very friendly and polite.

I lived in Govanhill for a couple of years, very interesting place

Central Bogota looking for some local market. Got harassed by transgender prostitutes at one point. A proper hairy (no pun intended) experience.

Posted earlier about Belize City but forgot about New Orleans (I know get me), hooked up with a young lady, got taxi back to hers, taxi driver would only take us so far and said I’m not going into that shithole (part of town where lady lived), I told the driver he was a twat, he chucked us out, lady said I was a twat for calling the taxi driver a twat and left me. I was the only white person in the neighbourhood, had to pay two ‘dudes’ to escort me to a taxi rank, arse was twitching all the way. Sad thing, the lady was fit and I was thinking this is gonna be a good night

Ah, fair enough.

Stayed at the V & A and then had a night in Camps Bay after a Franshoek and Hermanus. All fine, but there are commando style armed private security round both!
There was a power cut in Hermanus when I was in a pharmacy buying medication for my girlfriend. They wouldn’t serve me because the tills went off. Bloody piss take. They said they had power cuts most days.

The Bronx. Cop car (we were on foot) following us to make sure we were ok
Had that in LA In 85, few of us wearing too much red. Bar manager rang the cops to escort us back to hotel. Naples, coming out of Olympic Stadium in Rome, Port Glasgow, Port Authority Bus Station in mid 80s, felt nowt. ;) Manor and Finsbury Park! Really?
Mind the most edged I’ve ever felt was in a Cheltenham night club! Seriously.

Heading down Las Ramblas about two thirds down on RH side a few blocks in used to be a bit dodgy 20 yrs back. Weird thing is across las ramblas and a block in is just about my favourite restaurant in the world.

My uncle loves to retell a similar story.

About 10 or so years ago he was walking his shitzus round the block at night in west Houston where he's lived for decades, out of the corner of his eye he can see a car crawling along just behind him but he ignores it. Next thing the blue lights go on and he turns around; Constable gets out and asks what he's doing, tells them (in his Mackem / Texan drawl mix) that he's walking his dogs and that he lives round the corner. The constable asks if he's armed and he says no, he's not. The Constable advises him that he probably should be then gets back in his patrol car and drives off.

Skitz’d in a rough Chicago red line station & surrounding area when I was there in January. A couple of groups of African-American guys and I felt very uneasy...not being racist it was just scary moment in a known crime ridden area.

Yup, I used to get the algeciras-tangier ferry, the port area in algeciras is filled with Moroccan gentlemen loitering about, tangier was filled with the same plus quite attractive prostitutes, rough place algeciras.

I was in Tangier six years ago and it was quaint. A pleasant local chap came over and gave us the 'cutting your throat' gesture and said some nice Arabic words. Some other locals went mental at him and kept profusely apologising, which to be fair was good. After 10 days travelling around Morocco we got to Spain and felt like we were back in the 21st century.
