Pissing it

Spot on. As fans we shouldn't get into the mindset of thinking each game is won before it starts or it'll bite us on the arse. We need to keep our attention on geeing up the lads for good performances every game, not go into each game expecting to be entertained. That's the slippery slope.

Thankfully, looking at the interview with Honeyman from yesterday, the players are properly focussed and determined. It'd be disastrous to our season if the players went into each match thinking it was already won before it started.

Smaller paragraphs just make it easier to read without having to squint.

Maybe at least try cutting some of your sentences up into smaller chunks?

This one for example...

"We may end up walking the league and I really hope we do, just like any supporter does, it'll have been a great entertaining season for us, but we aren't there yet by a long long way and just judging by todays match thread, there's a hell of a lot on here who are still suffering the hangover from previous seasons, doubting the team and nervous when things don't go instantly our way and rightly so, we've been through some really crap times in recent years and every time we have thought we have turned that corner, things go to crap."

One sentence? Really? I would make that four. :D

Overconfidence/arrogance/complacency.

Like it or not, for at least the next 9 months we're a league 1 team. We're here on merit for having a shite few seasons. Right now, this is where we belong.

In my opinion we should enjoy the ride trying to get back up to the Championship and not act like Billy Big Bollockses while we're here.

Just because we're winning doesn't mean we should rub the other League 1 teams' faces in it. If we act like arseholes along the way we might just piss off a few opposition players enough for them to start throwing in career-ending tackles on our players.

Can't we be confident that we look good, enjoy our time in this division, but be humble about it too?

Nowt worse than a sore winner, IMO.

Don't see anyone acting as an arsehole, maybe his choice of words wasn't good, He just thinks we will do it easily, whats the problem? He may be wrong

The problem is, if you go into each match thinking it's already won before it starts, while the opposition teams go into those matches thinking "this is going to take a lot of effort but I'm determined to put these arrogant fuckers in their place" then it's likely to blow up in our faces.

Nothing wrong with thinking we're looking good at the moment and being over the moon after a win. Talk of pissing the league when we're only 5 matches into the season is very premature.

I don't think anyone thinks its already won, as I said, probably a bad choice of words

I think we will win this league, not sure if we will piss it, I hope we do

His choice of words in his subsequent posts on this thread as well.

If I were a player for another team and was coming up against one of the top teams of the division I was in, I'd try my hardest.

If I were a player for another team and was coming up against one of the top teams of the division I was in and they were acting like the league was already won after only a handful of matches, I'd run through brick walls to put them in their place.

Its not the players though is it? Anyhow, lets enjoy the fucker while we can

It could be worse, we could be shouting at Sports stores windows, and only have 1 point :)

True, true.

The sentiment could equally be applied to uber fans though. Some of the clubs we come up against are likely to have hardnut supporters in their fanbases who only need a bit of this kind of attitude thrown in their faces to push them over the line into fight territory. In those situations, it's not just the person being arrogant that ends up with a fist in their face or a brick through their car window; innocent folks just looking for a nice day out at the match can get caught up in it too.

Even taking it down a notch, our attitude along the way could mean the difference between making new friends with fans of other clubs in the pub after a match or not.

Like you say, let's enjoy it while we can. It's f***ing fantastic at the moment. I just think some of us should reel themselves back in a little.

Lets be honest there is not a single doubt we are going up

Tremendous
long season ahead fella .......two or three injuries to key players and we would be aiming for the playoffs rather than certs for promotion............we do need a deeper squad and there is no escaping the responiability for this .....its 100% down to donald and nobody else!...its very clear to me that our best eleven players would get up promoted at a canter ...............provided they keep the effort up!......and lets be honest oviado ,catts, maja ,mcgeoch, and others dont have a very good injury record do they?

The overreacting on here man. Someone getting carried away and buzzing about winning games again and people thinking this is 'tempting fate'. Lovely stuff.

Believe it or not but this place does not represent the views of all Sunderland fans and is detached from reality for the most part. It doesn't make our fans look arrogant and it will have zero impact on how the team do on the pitch. The clamour to be seen as the most grounded fans in the world is a bit weird imo, it's arrogant in itself to assume anyone gives a toss.

Had more beers at The League Of Gentleman than I thought :lol:

Haway the f***ing confidence !!!!

It’s only August.
Big club, big budget, massive support ....... sure one of the favourites and likely but football can kick you in the bollocks.

This. I was chatting to some Exeter fans on the train back to Bristol, and they were wondering what the reaction will be when we have an inevitable stumble. We will; it's just not possible there won't be a glitch or two in a 46 game season. Funnily enough, they were more questioning about how we would react as fans to a bad run, which I thought was actually pretty perceptive. It's a valid question.
