'Not what you expect in Doncaster': suspected piranhas found in lake

Late on Monday night, a reporter at the Doncaster Free Press received an unusual phone call. A piranha, one of the world’s fiercest predators normally found stalking the waters of the Amazon basin, had apparently been discovered in a lake in Doncaster.

There were dramatic rumours of ducks being massacred and other wildlife being torn to shreds by the razor-toothed fish in the freezing waters of Martinwells Lake.

Too late to be an April Fools’ Day prank, the story seemed so far-fetched that many locals simply confined it to the territory of urban legends and demanded further proof.

They are quite popular fish for people with warm water home aquariums. Some stupid bastard probs got sick of them dumped them in the pond. Can't believe The Guardian would run a story like this, absolute Sunderland Echo job.

its a good way to stop people swimming in hot weather

Doncaster Council has warned people to avoid swimming and paddling in the town’s lakes after the discovery of deadly piranha fish.

Doncaster piranhas: Council issues ‘stay away from water’ warning after deadly fish found in lake

none of these fish will be as dangerous as the infamous dog eating catfish from the lake in fatfield\mount pleasant back in the 70s\80s\90s (delete where applicable when you first heard the urban myth).

It's blatantly an unwanted fish that died after someone took it out their tank and put it in the pond. But that doesn't have quite the same ring to it as the piranha invested lake with disappearing ducks and dogs
