A sad day. It was the catalyst for my career in O&G, leak detection and pipeline management34 years passed now. RIP to the 167 souls lost this night 06/07/1988

Pretty sure the sun headline that day was34 years passed now. RIP to the 167 souls lost this night 06/07/1988
I'm sure it was. A terrible night,I was on Tharos that night. True unforgettable.
Montrose alpha he was on at the time with that massive flare stack. Fair play to the bloke. I could never do what he did.I was onshore on my 2/2 rota, when it happened. I went back out to my rig a few days later. It was a very quiet flight out.
Often we hear the phrase "Lessons will be learned", and take it with a pinch of salt, but this tragedy rocked the industry to its core, changing the design, methods, strategy, and safe working practices, for the benefit of all of us. RIP lads.Spent my working life doing offshore design, always said I’ll never be paid enough to work on a bomb so always refused/ dodged offshore trips.
horrific accident but as a consequence so many safety issues highlighted and implemented rip anyone involved
f***ing hell. That's horrible. Both my dad and grandad were on their 2 off.. ( from the piper)
That was it for them both.
Same as the mines mate. Good money for work.My friends dad died in the disaster, my mate works on the rigs now too, that must have been a hard choice to make.
I sold the leak detection and predictive modelling software to BP after that. For the entire Forties system.I was offshore that night when the Piper went up.
I was on the BP Forties Bravo, and will never ever forget that night.
RIP to the 167.
