The Raven

Striker
Mrs Raven (don't bother) made some of this last night after reading/watching something about how tender and tasty it was.

Absolutely vile texture to it, thin films of fat/sinue running through it. had to leave it in the end.

I don't think i'll be eating animal face again.

Anyone else had the extreme misfortune of trying this?

I had some beef cheeks when I was in Austria earlier this year. expected them to have been slow cooked and soft andf tender but they were chewy as fuck... the bit I could get through tasted not too bad but far from tender

After seeing someone on Come Dine With Me cook pigs trotters I nonchalontly told Mrs Army that I'd eat them, no problem.
She later appeared with a bag load of them from the butchers.
To save face I cooked them and ate (a bit of) one.
f***ing vile. I shall learn to keep my mouth shut in future.

mine normally go in for 4-6 hours to be honest matey. i like the sticky, glutinous feel to them. similar to shin of beef. i like any old meat tho-big offal fan.

Aye, I was going to say sounds like beef shin. The absolute best meat for a stew IMO.

Will have to give beef cheeks a go. Can you get them easily at the butchers?

should be able to get them from a half decent butcher. mine does them. one thing to be aware of is there is sometimes a tough memberane which may need to be removed. otherwise stew away!

Never tried it and I'll eat most things.
Had Guinea Fowl last night for my tea, it was canny.

Sounds like she got the wrong cheek and ended up with the arse one!

Beef cheeks are supposed to be spot on and on my to try list despite not being able to get away with the offally bits.

On a side note, had wood pidgeon the other week, 2 little breasts on a bit of pearl barley....not really sure what I thought of it to be honest, ate it like but there's a couple of coo coo pidgeons in our garden, not the manky town ones....are they what I ate??

Had some a while back in Eauzone. Very nice and the added benefit of the lasses not greeding it off you when you tell them what it is.

Yeah, think I liked it, had a bit of a strong taste to it and only cooked on one side to keep it rare....that's the problem with me ordering when slightly inebriated, I go for stuff I never would normally.....not necessarily a bad thing and have had more likes than dislikes I suppose!

Pig cheeks are the staple of the sausage maker. I'd suggest a high proportion of whatever meat ends up in your average Pork banger will be the cheeks.

Cod cheeks are canny mind. Braedcrumbed or battered.

I always try and order something different given the opportunity. If I'm out I like to have something I wouldn't normally have at home.
