Pickford

Try to read on and after you find this is not a whole game opinion then you can come back and argue against the this being applicable to the first 50 mins.

That said, I would, not, and have not said he had a bad game.

Sadly you, like most others have jumped on a very justifiable post after 50 mins and made is disagreeable after 90 mins.

I expected better.

No. That is an idiots conclusion like yours.

I never wrote him off., yet you stupidly think I do.

It's idiots like you who make people written off after one game. Read on in the posts and try to actually think about what is written and when it is written.

Or else be an idiot.
He looks a decent prospect who can kick it, which makes him better than one and at the worst level with the other.

Indeed I spoke too soon. His last 40 mins were good. Not brilliant, but good under the circumstances.

But seriously there are some clowns on here who think that a view of how he is doing part way through a game represents a final game opinion.

Dear me. Glad someone has some comprehension of the timeline of a thread.
Thats exactly what you said though you dick wad!

Some posters on here are beyond comical. Other than one poor kick in the first half, the lad did very well.

This thread just proves to me that some people are desperate to see local lads fail. In the unlikely event you're reading this Jordan, keep up the good work son.

If that daft knacker is going to compare him to Given can I just clarify that Given's first three games for us were against Leicester, Grimsby and Tranmere in the 2nd tier

How are you mate? Long time.

Never been impressed when I seen him play for the reserves, all be it a few year ago. His kicking though is absolutely tremendous. An attribute we have not seen in a safc keeper for a long time. Hopefully his shot stopping and handling of crosses are decent.

he could do with learn how to catch a ball, he nearly parried one on to cambells head, if one thing he had today it was luck cos if that one had went in it would have been a shocker

Needs to start every game. Better than Pants and Vito

garbage

The whole thing with goalkeepers on the SMB is f***ing stupid and has been for years at least since ward was replaced by Gordon.

In a) You have the posters who like the current keeper and rate him, often way overboard and generally back it up with stats because we're shit and negative and it often reflects well in goalkeeping stats.

In b) you have the ones who don't rate the current keeper, but seem to rate any fucker else and over rate the lad who is currently number 2 because of it.

In the middle you have a few who just take things by what each keeper does but the above posters in A and in B just seem to replicate each others roles depending on who's in goal.

Now to totally confuse things we have pickford being built up beyond anything he's ever likely to achieve as the first team is shit with number one or number two keeper in. Hes being built up on the back of a promising breakthrough and so when he comes in and has an average game, you have those lining up to say he deserves to start now in the PL etc etc and then on the flip side because he just had an average game (in which we conceded 3) you have those ready to knock him back down, possibly because they were expecting Lev f***ing Yashin.

I prefered it when Westwood was back up under Mannone or behind Mig, because there was mostly no arguments or bullshit on it then.

Just watched his post match interview on SAFSee.

Seems like a really nice genuine lad. It must be surreal for him - making his first team debut for his home team against Arsenal at the Emirates. It's a massive deal and he did himself a great credit.

First time I've saw him in action today. Not a lot he could do about the goals to be fair and as a keeper, you're only as good as your defenders - and they left him exposed too many times unfortunately. He made a few decent stops and isn't afraid to have shout at his defence when they are left wanting.

He looks a great prospect regardless of what the some of the 'experts' on here say.

He'll need some media training methinks. Reminded me of watching Wayne Rooney's first pressers when he first was thrust into the limelight.

:)

Fair comment.

All I am saying is that he is not as 'brilliant' as everyone on here wants him to be without actually watching him.

Sorensen was 22 when he came here.
Given 20.

Both were visibly better and here people seen to ignore that I don't blame him for our conceded goals and I accept its a tougher start but if you saw those two play and saw Pickford then you cannot contest the fact. He is not as good a prospect as them....this is not 'writing him off' or saying 'he is shyte', which is what some on this thread want to dismiss my comments as.

I am simply saying he is not as good a prospect as them, not as 'amazing' as everyone is hoping he will be.... I really don't know how you can argue against that?

No pissing about, no1 from today. Very assured, distribution was tremendous and most of all, he wasn't shy in giving the 'defence' what he thought.

They've scored with 3 free shots on goal, 2 within the 6 yard box. Cech was beaten from 25 yards at his near post. Is he poor?[/QUOTE]

No. I never said he was poor.

I said he had up until the 50 minute mark been 'poor'.

This does not make him 'poor' as a goalkeeper per say. It would be silly to classify him such as a youngster after only 50 minutes. But I can say he hadn't been playing well for a 'great' prospect up to that pint and I challenge anyone to refute that.

Both those two keepers began playing for us at a lower level though, behind good solid teams. That makes a massive difference.

Given was much more agile and made a career out if it, even though he was lacking in more areas. Sorensen on wasn't half the keeper he was made out to be here, though physically he was different to pickford and he was allowed to settle in at a more comfortable level, after being second choice in Denmark at a lower level than pickford has been standing out at.

God only knows how in one game you have already seen those two were both visably better.

Westwood was underrated here tbf, frequently blamed for our awful marking on set pieces at the time

He's one of the top GKs in the Championship and it's no surprise.

Because you've made this assumption after one game, unless you've watched him out on loan? And it's the Preston fans that have been hyping him up.

Nothing he done today should put him in ahead of Mannone who i don't particularly rate BTW, but has done more to keep the shirt in his last few games.

Well you're moaning about him after 1 game against Arsenal, where he had no chance for any of the goals and are comparing him to one of the best goalkeepers the Pl has seen

I think he's done okay today, nothing more. He's got lucky a few times.

I am most certainly not moaning about him.

A decent debut. I am just saying it was nothing to shout home about...most fans seem bent on hailing him a 'star' and that is clearly not the case or even nearly proven after today.

It is perfectly reasonably to point out that stupid predilection of our fans.

Because you've made this assumption after one game, unless you've watched him out on loan? And it's the Preston fans that have been hyping him up.

I reckon you can assume by reading the abuse on this thread, that our fans have bought into that 'he's amazing and the next big thing' lark, without actually watching him.

Sorenson and Given were playing in the 2nd tier with teams that ultimately won that league

He's faced Arsenal away with a horrific defence that finished with Jones and Coates as Centre Halfs

The lad has had one game, done well and has nost likely taken a load of confidence from it.

What else are people expecting
