The lad dos alright in a tough game with some poor defending in front of him for the goals. I don't blame him for any of the goals but he's not as good as I hoped when I think of a you Given. Parried too much when he could gather easy enough first half. Maybe nerves.

Happy enough with him today but he's not a 'great' prospect like most people want to wish for. Me included. He's a decent prospect on the face of that. His performance was average. It was certainly poor first half.
Make Ya mind up will ya.. Is he very poor or did he do alright?

He seemed canny enough considering who we were playing and the state of our defence.. Looked better than our other 2 options to me.

How can you say he is not a good prospect after 1 game against a top pl team?

The given comparison is pointless.

Cant fault him tried to command his box, rev the back four up, good positioning and kicking. Think we have a decent Keeper on our hands.

How tall is he? He looks really little. He doesn't have that huge, commanding posture that a lot of keepers have. Pants is like a giant (well, he is a giant) striding out to claim the ball.

He's taller than Shay Given and look how of a class keeper he ended up as.

I thought he had a fantastic debut despite the scoreline.. Looked composed, distribution spot on. Just a shame it was away to Arsenal, but you know you had a good game when Petr Cech congratulates you at the end.

Considering he's 21 and never played for us before he did okay.I know him personally and he's dedicated to football, he loves the club.

Chucking him in for his debut away to Arsenal isn't easy but he made some canny saves and had no chance with the 3 goals.

I'd look at our piss poor defending as to why we've conceded 49 goals this season.

Yeah, I agree. Hope playing behind our defence doesn't ruin him, mind.

You're coming across as bit of a prick mate.

Jesus wept watch the first 50 minutes when I posted it then de-cry what is said. Or wander on with no sense of time and judgement like you have. Pillock
Fuck off man, anyone who has has any issue with what Pickford did today either has a personal vendetta against the lad or knows fuck all about football. After watching him for 35 minutes you have decided he needs downgraded from "Great" to "Decent" ffs. It was his debut, against Arsenal and if Pants or Mannone had played not one negative comment would be made against what they did. You are just a knob.

Sounds like he did alright today and I think he'll be first choice from now on. Allardyce clearly doesn't rate Pantilimon and despite his last couple of performances, Mannone isn't good enough either.

Been impressed with the lad, looks promising for first team player in the near future, probably be on the bench as no 2 if we sell 1 of our keepers.

I agree with all of that. However he does not look as great as people claim... Is my only point.

Goals aside (not his fault), his first half performance was quite poor. Too much parry and punchcard when you'd expect a keeper, a good one, an England U21 to stop and gather. I'm perfectly happy to put his first half down to nerves and I don't think he's shyte, but he was almost at fault for two simple goals concede in the first 50 mins when I first posted and was only saved from his errors by two goal line clearances.

I think of Given when he came on loan. Yes Pickford is against tougher opposition, but looking at him and his choices and I would say he's some way behind Given at his age.

Happy for him, decent performance. Not great. Nothing to suggest he will be. Decent. Well done though, tough debut.

Remember his reaction when the ginger equalised at Cardiff a few years ago , he's one of us man , let's all back a local lad for fucks sake.

he isn't Shay Given.....hope this helps

Every player has a defined style of play and it does nothing to compare them to what has came before, Watmore is nothing like Giggs so why bother with the comparison

I don't see why you compare him to Given. Players develop at different rates, particularly keepers get better with experience.

He's probably not ready to be number 1 yet but he's comfortably good enough as back up keeper on the bench.

Give him the odd game here and there. If we go down I can see him being number 1.
