Phones In The Workplace

Both.

Been on the books means nowt to me mind .I’ll still fuck them off before feet get wedged under the table.
So their contract of employment mentions phone use of they are directly employed? Or if they are subbies then the site rules are clearly explained?

Why's asking if it affects production a silly question? If it's subbies on price then does it matter if they are the phone as long as they hit their targets? Or is everyone on daywork?

Mines on my desk all day. Very rare anyone calls but do text a bit. If I do get a call, I’ll take it in the office unless it’s about a job then I go outside.

Not really. A bloke checking his phone now and then doing more graft than someone who doesn't appear to be tossing it off. Simple stuff really.
Checking a phone now and then is ok.Having the kernt glued to your face isn’t

Neither one matters.

If they on a price then it’s a canny excuse to review my targets.Generally though it’s people who have no or little responsibility.Labourers and apprentices .

Aye but that's what I was on about. Every first aid course I've attended they've mentioned to the importance of first hand information been given to the 999 call handler.

There's team leaders and gaffers for that though..if there was acccident..and now and then there is..a lad could take his phone out and make the call to the medical room or alert a gaffer about it..no ones getting into trouble for that..if he's sitting on his arse scrolling through Facebook then he's getting wrong..it's common sense.

I'm not defending the pisstakers. I'm saying a blanket ban is stupid and dangerous.

It's not really a blanket ban where i worked as such..you can have your phone in your bay and every now and then you can have a look at the screen to see if there's a missed call or message..if it's something you think is important..i mean you could be at work knowing a family member is poorly and someone is going to phone you with an update..you then leave your bay tell a gaffer where you're going and answer it..no problem..it's like what Gilly says further up..some people have them glued to their faces all day and it gets everyone into trouble..the biggest problem where i worked was the quality of the work was suffering.

We make the youngun at work stick a quid in a jar every time she's caught abusing it. She's going to take the other lasses out for a meal with the proceeds

Aye well when you put it like that.

I’ve worked on sites for years and general attitude I’ve realised is this

Price work- target amount of £ I want to earn each day/week so I can get the fk
Home and do what I enjoy doing.

Day rate-achieve work load expectations daily while doing the bare minimum.

On the books- exactly the same as above, gets tricky if your van has a tracker
Though.

Agency- toss it off completely, but show face and blend in every now and then

As the man In charge you won’t like it because all you see is ££ signs when John Doe is watching tik tok vids all the time but if that brickwork he’s doing for you is completed in a timeframe you know in your head you was happy with deep down….then you just need to let it go.
Young lads/ apprentices who should be watching and learning though deserve a bollocking or the boot.

We aren’t supposed to carry them but everyone ignores the rule. I reckon some people waste 25%+ of their workday on them.

No policy on phones at my place, would seem like a strange and dated idea if there was.

We need phones for MFA anyway, but then people have this internet thing on their computers and work from home most the time. We know who works hard and who are slackers.

Have mine in work but always on silent…
If it rings I would always step outside to take the call
You can make and receive calls on them ?? That's a new one
Surely unless you have a written policy that clearly states you cannot use a personal phone during working hours, you're on dodgy ground threatening people with the sack?
If you split down all the functions
TV
Radio
Walkman
Incoming personal calls
Games console
Etc etc
Non of those are acceptable to partake on a shift so what's dodgy ?

Its somewhat flexible at our please, never seen an issue with people checking their phones at head office, but we have certain clients who would never allow us to enter their locations with phones that can record or take pictures, so rules out 99% of phones now I guess.

Same certain clients can't even enter the floor with a phone.

Has to be left in reception unless it'd been fully signed off by security
