Phones In The Workplace

Afternoon all,

What’s your companies stance on mobile phones in your work place ?

Since I’ve had to bring new blood in it’s a problem I’ve had to tackle head on,telling lads to leave their phones in their bags until bait time, threats of the sack, etc etc.
It’s a real addiction to some people and they can’t put them down, hence me implementing draconian measures.I’ve been think “what the fu k have these been allowed to get away with elsewhere?”

It then got me thinking of this place, the amount of people who post during the day who have 9-5 jobs is mind blowing. How do you get away with it?

Thanks now.

How else can they post on here?

We have a zero tolerance. If you’re seen with a phone at work then you’re suspended for 20 working days.
It’s a AAR requirement that we don’t have any personal electronic devices. Even if you’re caught with a Walkman or a tamagotchi, it’s a personal electronic device

Exactly.I will bladder them aswell no question.

What’s going on in their heads though ?How shallow and empty are their lives, really?

Imagine my shock in reading this
Just the sign on of the times the tech is there now. I can't say fuck all as my phone is never out my hand, rtg, eBay, Facebook, banking, shopping the lot. I think I've spent the last year researching vans😂

My old place has a policy of phones only used in the canteen..i was involved with a lad being sacked for constantly using his phone..i told him over and over but he wouldn’t take any notice..he kept missing welds but always had time to be on his phone..i lost patience with him and he was sacked..he was a mag from Rowlands Gill so i really didn’t give a shite.

No

As I don’t work for someone else.My phones always on incase of emergencies from either past or present customers or lads who are in on a weekend need me.

I don’t check emails after 4ish now until the next morning which is a good habit to adopt.

One of the annoying things I find is when you have someone working in the house and their partners phone them up constantly.

I’d imagine when you’re paying them you have a good right to have a go, I don’t have time to use my phone at work other than break times.

Generally it’s fat f***ing slobs of a wife who do that.
If our lass rings me I answer straight away and keep it short,as I know it’ll be important

Difficult one Gilly, younguns are a different generation now and everything is on the phone. Manual work, it's phones away I agree - if they're mucking aboot with the phone then they aren't working. Maybe cutting some slack if the lads are delivering is fine, but message has to be clear - get the work done otherwise the phone gets chucked in the cement mixer.

Can use them at my workplace especially as working from home nobody can really stop you. However you can tell through call listening if somebody is concentrating on the call or in their phone.

Our lads can use them but only in certain areas that are explained on each job they go on. They are all sensible lads and know they can't be distracted with phones, especially when your working up a height.

As I'm an office monkey I can use mine when I want as long as I hit deadlines and targets

As a teacher it’s the one thing that drives me nuts. Kids aren’t meant to have them on but I don’t think I’ve taught a lesson in the last 10 years where a phone hasnt gone off.

Kids are addicted to them
We used to have that but my school implemented a mobile phone ban, now any student caught with one has it confiscated and gets an after school detention. Phones going off is now a rarity.

School my sister works at confiscates them and doesn't give them back until close of play on the Friday. They have next to no issues now.

Fecking detest the things Gilly, banned by me at our place, I let them crack on at bait time but otherwise it's a big no from me.

That’s the whole thing about what I posted above..there’s time built into the jobs at my old place to check your work..to be honest you could check it ten times over before the line moves..but no..finish..gear off..phone out..same young’uns making mistakes over and over.

Haway Gilly.
You're getting soft man.
Take the phones off the lazy bassas and stamp on them.
That'll learn 'em.

Straight from the Gilly book of management that.👍
