Kevin Phillips grabbed a second-half double to earn Sunderland a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Aston Villa on this day 23 years ago.
Dion Dublin put Villa in front after the break, but Peter Reid’s men rallied to take all three points, moving third in the table in front of 41,045 fans.

Wow, I just referenced the Villa match in the FA Cup Draw thread with Dublin and Phillips in the same room together. That was the first Sunderland match I ever saw live on tv here in the USA in the old Fox Sports World. I drove 2 hours from my school to my parents house since they had the big satellite tv package and then drove back the next morning in time for class. Just a mere 23 years ago!
