Hit on the head by a bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match, put his hand on his knee then collapsed to the ground face first. Treated at the ground then rushed to hospital where he has been operated on. In a critical condition, hope the lad's ok.

Bloody hell, apparently stopped breathing at the wicket and was given mouth to mouth resuscitation

awful that ! hard to believe wearing a helmet too
hope he pulls through !!!!

F'kin hell like.

Wish him the best. Hope he recovers fully.

That's another one lately who has been tagged properly even when wearing a helmet. Do they need to re-think the design of them?

Looks like it hit him flush on the temple (footage was from a stream so poor quality) rather than it got through the grill. As cold as it is to say it at a time when emotions are running so high but it just looks like a freak.

One report I read said that according to Steve Smith he was hit on the jawline? Not an expert in Human Trauma but if that is the case I cant see how it has caused such a massive injury?

Must have been the temple, surely.

Just seen the footage. He had to be given CPR for 30 minutes at the ground before being stable enough to be taken to hospital. Horrible.

Same as that lad for Pakistan then. Surely that part of the helmet should be able to withstand an impact like that? How do other sports fare when protecting the head from missiles?

Baseball is coming under scrutiny:

And while not "missiles"; both codes of rugby have banned tip tackles to prevent head/neck injuries.

I think it may become compulsory for every level to wear a helmet.

That's two international test players to be hurt on the space of a few weeks now.

It actually looks like it hits him on the back of the head- he turns away from the ball.

I must be naive- but I always thought that as long as the ball hit the main helmet you'd be safe. I suppose a 90 mph ball could create such force to damage the skull through the helmet.

Its a natural reaction to turn your back/head I suppose.
