They were both great full backs. Two footed. Proper defenders. Bardsley was a bit better going forward, but makin had summerbee in front of him, so had to do dk a lot defensively.

I really liked makin. A few rumours about when he suddenly left. Something to do with Philips?
 
Pretty sure Phil Bardsley is still playing in the Premier League! Not sure how some fans have this perception that he was a flop
 
Any one for Irwin or Ashurst ? Makin for me was an outstanding back but you could not knock Bardsley as on the field he gave everything and knew his limitations.
 
Typical Sunderland that we chased both players out of the club, without having adequate replacements. Billy Jones, Love, McLaughlin, Matthews etc. FTM
