Samson - Our family pet lived till he was 17yr old brought up down South Hylton his brother Sultan use to live next door to us and would knock on the letter box for him to go for a wonder they would never go far always in view on the crescent field or the bank leading to the lines :)

Duncan - My dog will be 10 in September i think im more known round the town through him people always stopping me on a weekend saying "Your the lad who walks your dog all ower or wheres your dog"

fairly common thing round our way 1960's and before.

pit village, cant afford vets, bitch has pups, dog has injury/illness, live around half mile from the river, into a sack with a couple of housebricks, into river, job done.

me da's dog was healthy though.
Same here that's the one thing I can't get me head around from those days.

Fergus, my Sottish Fold. Mad as a box of frogs, scared of his shadow.

Had a routine rabies jab back in 2007, and when I got him back to the flat, he'd started to hyperventilate, started howling, throwing up and shaking.....rushed him back to the vets, where he was taken straight back in, put on antihistamines and steroids for three day.... Turns out he went into anaphylactic shock from the jab and would have died if I hadn't taken him back.

He's fine now... And the most gormless looking cat in the world.

Also mad, has me completely wrapped round her little paw. Ridiculously gentle with people, useless at hunting but a right bruiser with other cats.

He sits sideways on ForumRunner for some reason, but not on the full site :). He's picky.

I got two giant Aflican land snails given four or five years ago and called one Zebede, and one Florence. They loved Tennants lager. Went to clean them out one day and there was billions of eggs. They went into their shells three years ago and not been out since. Still got them in case they're not deed.

We adopted (bought) our neighbours black lab because he kept crawling under the communal fence and running into our house gannin mental running the length of the house before spinning and doing it all over again. This despite us having a very grumpy possessive golden lab of our own.

when we moved house I told them I'd have the dog if they ever wanted rid, as I loved him and new he was clumsy with their toddlers.

a year later I bumped into the former neighbour and she sold him to me for £100.

A couple of years later, with the dog only 8 years old, he went blind.

We looked after him and he was still happy when a vet told us his sight might be able to be restored. We took him to the specialist and he confirmed that his eyes were fucked. Two days later he developed a massive mass on his spine and became paralysed. Had to have him put to sleep the next day.

RIP Taz Monster. The best £100 I ever spent.

Good on you marra.

Got a squashed snail in the wash house, he hasn't got a shell so I keep trying to keep him moist in the hope that he can regrow one.
He's hanging in so hope springs eternal.

I'm sat here with a Westie on me lap snoring and the occasional fart. Mostly by him. I'm thinking about the pets that have touched my life. A Yorky called Whisk springs to mind. Cried my eyes out in front of a Y10 class at Pennywell when he died. He was 18. A cat called Tiger who licked my ears and was lovely, and a cat called Fluffy who my mrs worshipped like I did Whisk, and was Tiger's brother
Any pets you want to share a story about?

I'm dreading the day my dog's time us up, though hopefully he has many years to go yet.

Had a Yorkie called Guthrie Halom when I was bairn. Me dad bought him just after the Cup Final. He was a lovely dog, but was an absolute nutter when it came to other dogs. He used to go for every one, no matter what size they were. And cats. He once broke a leg when the cat he chased jumped on top of a driveway pillar. Yorkies aren't made for this unfortunately. Bang. He also used to do a runner, if there was a way out of the door.

He once went missing for a week. We had an ad in the Gazette, to see if anyone had seen him, with no luck, and we had just about given up hope. We gave him one last search in Harton Cemetery, which was his usual haunt if he pissed off. We were shouting for him, ( just Guthrie like. Guthrie Halom was a bit too embarrassing ) when all of a sudden, out of the dark, he appeared and jumped into my dad's arms. Magic. He lived until 16. I hope the one I have now does.
