Agreed. Even in the roughest bits I wouldn't feel as if I had to keep my wits about me to avoid getting mugged, shot or stabbed. Compared to other places.
For all its a bit naff, and quite shit - its really safe, and has loads of open green spaces.

I really don't get the reputation it gets - drive around the local villages, and you'll struggle to find anything better - yet nobody talks about how crap Trimdon, FIshburn, Blackhall, Easington , Murton etc are. Even Seaham is touch and go.
 


moved to Peterlee in 1969 with me Mam and Dad into the new council estate near the Moorcock . the street I was brought up in consisted of Sunderland family's that had took advantage of the new cheep houses. It was always a good mix of colliery and Sunderland family's . Lived there for 53 years and I still get called a towney
