PES 2020/21 Noob question

My son is wanting PES 2021 off Santa this year rather than Fifa. I see that PES 21 is being sold as an update to PES 20, and is therefore much cheaper. My question is, do I need to buy PES 20 too? Does it have to be 20? Not 19, 18 etc? Once you have 21 do you need to keep 20 or can you sell it on again? Trust him to switch to PES when it's not straightforward! Cheers

You don't need PES 2020 to play the new one.

PES 2021 is a standalone game albeit it's PES 2020 with a squad and kit updates and a blue menu instead of a purple one

I'd also recommend holding off until December to buy it, it always comes down in price about then.

You can just buy the newest one. Its cheaper because its basically the same game as per 20 but with the updates to teams and stuff for this seasson

If you play on PS4/PC, all those updates can be done via an option file anyway can't they? Meaning you don't need to buy the new one?

PES gameplay is absolutely lightyears ahead of Fifa, an absolutely superb game.

12.50 on ps store. Might buy it at that price. Always like the idea of footy games but then barely play them.

That's purely for MyClub, PES's version of Ultimate Team. Basically you get the full team of whatever version you buy.

Definitely, in fact even if you played MyClub I still wouldn't recommend paying extra for it. I never use the one I got (Juventus).

True, although might be best just trying the free version (i.e. It's just MyClub) to see if you like the gameplay before buying.

See I really think it is. Me and my mate have stopped playing it because it has made Fifa unplayable, and we now prefer to play Fifa for the spectacle it is on OLED T.V's

It's the same game as 2020 but with updated squads basically. You don't need the 2020 version to play the new one.
