People who stay to the final whistle are genuine supporters.

As an exile, I was watching on Sky tonight, but I've been to hundreds of matches in my time and I haven't missed a minute of any of them.

Last few minutes tonight, 2:2, the game balanced on a knife edge, and in the full glare of national TV we had people streaming towards the exits.

If you were one of them, you have no right to demand 100% from the players if you can't be arsed to give it in return.

Those who stayed to the end, fair dues, you sounded great.

i couldn't believe people were leaving that match early, cracking entertainment imo.

For me, the last few minutes & the injury time produce the most excitement, especially when you feel its gona happen. ie. the Arsenal game

Paid me money, so I can leave early if I want to. The old excuse. Bollocks.

If you piss off early, your contribution to the players' wage packets is immaterial. You can't demand that they give their all until the final whistle if you can't.

A football club ain't a charity. You don't 'support' it by making a donation at the turnstiles. You support is by adding your voice to the crowd.

Good post. Can't stand it like. 'Avoid the traffic' is another one

got that the wrong way round, love. You cannit be supporting the team if your walking back over the bridge and the team are still playing.

Don't call me love you young whippersnapper. Slap!

I meant financial support, the person has bought their ticket, they have financially supported their club. A fan, short for fanatic in case you didn't know, wouldn't leave early at 2-2 (real genuine reasons excepted).

Its amazing that that this fatuous argument is still going on. People can chose when they leave. If someone stays to the end and boos the teams performance are they a "supporter"? And someone who leaves early for whatever reason they may have is not? Trying to force your views on others is fascism.
You are the last in a long, tedious line of people who think they are some sort of arbiter of true SAFC fans.
You aren't.
And its time you realised it and stopped boring the rest of us to death.

he's only saying that you CANNOT be SUPPORTing the team if you ain't in the stadium to do so. What's so f***ing hard to grasp? The clue is in the name. SUPPORTers.

What if I leave my seat and stand at the access? Clap the lads off and fuck off after? Or do I have to stay in my seat for the full 90... Shit what about half time should u stay then and clap and sing for the subs?

You can't really support the team if you aren't there.

Excluding exiles and the few people who leave for a real reason.

Another ignorant fool who cant post without obscenity. Did you read my post? Try again, start at the top and work your way through. Got it? Now see if you can uinderstand whats in it.
I doubt it somehow.

(Cue more obscene abuse pretending to be a post.)

thank fuck most of our supporters arent like you or there'd be many suffering this fate..... mr sit down, dont sing and its okay to piss off early.

excellent post, im not one to take a dig at our own fans but every f***ing week the bloke just behind and right leaves on 83 minutes give or take a few mins and when im crossing the bridge after staying and applauding the players off the pitch win, loss or draw i pass the fucker every week in his car stuck in traffic by St Mary's car park.....i dinnit see the logic in it at all like, i vowed and so did me fatha never to leave another game early after the play offs in 1998 when me neighbours grandson felt ill.

I pay for 90 minutes and i get 90 minutes irregardless of score or performance

Fuck off.

I've supported the club through thick and (mainly) thin for four decades. I know the value of solidarity, which, in its purest sense, is the polar opposite of fascism.

I've seen 'supporters' slag off players on the basis of a single performance. And time and again I've heard people complaining that players don't show total commitment.

These days too many people are up their own arses, thinking that the world revolves around them. A football match is one place where you can temporarily add your individuality to a greater whole. That's a beautiful thing, and it can provide you with some of the greatest moments of your life.

But I suppose there are always going to be some miserable gits who rank beating the traffic above the possibility of sharing a collective moment of unreserved joy.

Oops - the "real" fans are out tonight. They dont read the posts, dont understand that people have different opinions and cant cope with a discussioin if someone dares to disagree. Still, as long as you go to every game make a lot of noise (and, most importantly) post that info on here, we'll be ok.

Which is exactly what I do
