The draw was made today for the biggest tournament in darts - The (PDC) World Championships. The tournament starts a week on Friday (13th) and concludes on New Years Day night.

The draw as usual has the respective paths marked out up to the final, so players know who they are in line to face at certain phases. Phil Taylor is in the top half of the draw, and thus can't play any of MVG, Lewis, RVB and Wade until the final.
72 players will take part. As usual there are 16 preliminary qualifiers who play-off in order to reach the first round proper. These ties take place at the start of each session in a race to 5 legs (I think, could be 4) and the winner will return later that night to compete in the final match of the day in the first round proper.

Prize money:
The total prize money is at least £1,050,000, with a cool £250,000 on offer to the winner, a £50,000 increase on last year. £30,000 is on offer as a bonus for a 9 dart finish.
Odds:

The bookies have installed Phil Taylor as the odds-on favourite, and is available at the best price of 10/11. Michael Van Gerwen fresh after his Players Championship win last night is second favourite and is available at 4/1. Adrian Lewis is the only other realistic winner as far as the bookies are concerned and is generally 6/1. There could be some value in quarter betting, or to reach the final etc.

Looking forward to this Xmas wouldn't be the same without this on in the background
