Paying off debt

I might be being very naive here, but, where has all this debt that I keeping hearing about being a massive issue for us come from? Stadium was very cheap. incoming transfer fee have pretty much been matched up with outgoing ones over the last ten years. I know we've always spent decent money on wages but by no means is it too far above the average for the league, which should have been balanced out with our higher than average matchday revenue. Plus our sponsorship deals have been higher than the average clubs over the last few years.

I know running a club is expensive and we will have debt. But how do we have any more than any other fairly well run club in the league?

To me it just seems like the 'we've got to balance the books' excuse has been too readily brought by everyone.

Sacking shit managers and their hangers on.

The club are def accepting and planning for relegation. Youth Players released yesterday too. It seems as tho everyone's gave up and accepted it. What a shame that we've wrote off the 1st 7 games and now the last 6. That's a third of the season...
If we could have just played the Mags 38 times along with the cups games it would have been fine and dandy

Bidvest deal was a pittance, we were desperate.

Agree too many changes in the past 6 years, Now for all the fans who called for the 3 mangers to be sacked ROY.K/ STEVE .B/ MON like to thx all of them who boo and cheer every opportunity they get it cant be a coincidence that our home form is so poor it cant be easy to play when most of the fans just boo its all about getting behind YOUR team even when we are playing bad , but we wont we will moan and boo every last kick of the ball at home and blame players for letting us down when really its just as much our fault for now getting behind our team at home

That last sentance really pissed me off.
f***ing stupid statement.

I don't understand how this is news. Of course they spend their future income streams in advance.[DOUBLEPOST=1396504557][/DOUBLEPOST]
I've been thinking this too. He'll not sell us while we're laden with debt.
Why? What difference does it make?

If a company has a balance sheet of +150m and debt of -50m, they liquidate £50m of assets to cover borrowings, they are still worth net the same (less transfers payments).

They need to be prudent about operating costs and once they've cleared a lot of the shit players who are nearly out of contract/ out on loan as they are no where near the first team they'll do that.

Everyone conveniently forgets that if we go down, the players' wages are cut 40%. We'll likely lose the wages of players like Larsson and Gardener, a few will leave for footballing reasons, for the short term (next 1-2 years) it will probably not be the end of the world financially. If we don't make it back up after the parachute payments end, then it will be hard.

Either way, up on down; the summer's recruitment will be vital. Let's hope this Congerton is better than the last guy.

Just caught a glimpse on Sky Sports News saying that we , SAFC, have decided to pay off our debts with any further money received from the Premier league this season...so what does this mean in reality?
No more player bonuses? Letting players go right now? Or simply chucking the towel in? I know I have done the latter like.

There's only one reason for this. Ellis Short clearing the decks for a sale a la Fat Mike up the road.

Not in the Championship we won't.

I agree he's looking to sell. I just don't think he realised how fine the line between a middle of the road PL club and a relegated PL club was. He took far too big of a risk last summer. It just seems there was no one football minded enough in the 'suit staff' to tell him to put the buffers on.

But we've already paid them this and it was funded by loans, it seems.

So, not only have these pricks embarrassed us year in, year out, we've gone well into the red funding their cushy lifestyle? Class

Huge turnover of players hasn't helped finances...

We've been craving stability, yet haven't managed it in 7 Prem years

We were the 9th highest spenders last year, with Everton and Fulham very close behind. Plus there is no figures for Southampton or West Ham and I'd hazard a guess they're both there or there abouts. So we're pretty much bang average. When you add to that the fact we've got a good turnover, surely we can't be in anymore debt than anyone else in the league.

These debts date back since the drumaville consortium I believe in order to fund getting out of championship and the push to stay in the premier league as I remember when short took over, quinny released a statement to say that an injection of funds from short had allowed us to restructure the debts of the club which would be allowed to be paid off over the course of so many years easier than in previous years with the drumaville funding.
Its good to hear the club have been working hard behind the scenes financially in order to get our debt down over the years when so many clubs have had it increasing especially when we might be going down however, you have to ask the question... how much of that reduction of debt has had an effect on the quality of players signed and therefore costs us our premier league status? I do agree however that players such as gardner, larsson, vaughan, bardsley et al and the wages they are reportedly on has not helped and the go ahead to give these wages should not have been given. Its costs us more in the long run keeping these players than it would have done telling them and their agents to get lost and sign someone with a bit more quality for similar amounts of wages but slightly higher fee.

Not according to the Bidvest CEO. South African living in Aus and my mates boss.[DOUBLEPOST=1396517832][/DOUBLEPOST]
What was it in comparison to others? Totally no idea what the figure is

Also the 40% reduction, I remember Quinn mentioning it years ago, but has this carried on being the case?

Pretty sure my mate said it was 1.5 for the year with option to dump if relegated. Was a while ago since he told me so might be a little out as my memory is pooop.

We haven't been reducing our debt. It's been going up.

Well you seem so knowledgeable streaker.........whats the value of the 'monster loan'?
North of £200 million............[DOUBLEPOST=1396521175][/DOUBLEPOST]
He's been looking for investors/buyers the whole time he was here, his whole fortune was made from quick deals. With us he's had to make it more attractive to buy, less debt is more attractive. That goes for Premier League or Championship. In the Championship we can be marketed as a club that suffered hard luck and mis-managed from previous regimes, now though we are a "sleeping giant etc. etc." who are low on debt and building for the future by using youth. The only difference from being in the Premier League is we can say we are in the Premier League right now.

Servicing the debt, re-structuring and re-building with a proper plan in place is what the club has needed for A LONG TIME! Going down to achieve future safety and security is good in my book. Look at Southampton. That's the sort of model we should be following.

Their recent "rise" came from the back off going into administration.................

And spending time rebuilding in the lower leagues. That was the focus of what I meant. While they suffered administration and a trip to league 1 they were away from the premier league and the spot light and pressures to build a decent young squad and blood countless youngsters. We need to do something similar.

Bet you when next years results are published there isn't a huge jump in commercial revenue...the £20 million figure that was bandied about was a pile of poo...........[DOUBLEPOST=1396521390][/DOUBLEPOST]

It all came from administration.........are you seriously suggesting this as the start point for rebuilding....we cant do it anyway............
