Just caught a glimpse on Sky Sports News saying that we , SAFC, have decided to pay off our debts with any further money received from the Premier league this season...so what does this mean in reality?
No more player bonuses? Letting players go right now? Or simply chucking the towel in? I know I have done the latter like.

Acting responsibly and accepting that championship football is a real possibility next season I guess.

Sounds like the out of contract players are out. No signing on fees etc??????

The club are def accepting and planning for relegation. Youth Players released yesterday too. It seems as tho everyone's gave up and accepted it. What a shame that we've wrote off the 1st 7 games and now the last 6. That's a third of the season...

Makes sense to plan for the future, pay off debts with guaranteed income, reduce interest payments and improve cash-flow. Easier to do this before relegation than after, and if a miracle happens and we stay up then we can re-finance with the assurance of a guaranteed top flight income.

Makes sense to me

I've thought for a while that Ellis Short is gearing up to sell the club, pay off the debts and we'll look a better proposition for potential buyers.

We tried to survive on the cheap this year and have paid the price.

That along with multiple backroom and board changes have made the club unstable and it has affected matters on the pitch.

Club now releasing this and planning for life in the championship.

IMO.

I might be being very naive here, but, where has all this debt that I keeping hearing about being a massive issue for us come from? Stadium was very cheap. incoming transfer fee have pretty much been matched up with outgoing ones over the last ten years. I know we've always spent decent money on wages but by no means is it too far above the average for the league, which should have been balanced out with our higher than average matchday revenue. Plus our sponsorship deals have been higher than the average clubs over the last few years.

I know running a club is expensive and we will have debt. But how do we have any more than any other fairly well run club in the league?

To me it just seems like the 'we've got to balance the books' excuse has been too readily brought by everyone.

Contracts and wages for shit players.

Not in the Championship we won't.

I agree he's looking to sell. I just don't think he realised how fine the line between a middle of the road PL club and a relegated PL club was. He took far too big of a risk last summer. It just seems there was no one football minded enough in the 'suit staff' to tell him to put the buffers on.

Aye but shit players who've kept us in the PL for what, 6 or 7 years? It doesn't matter how shit they are, as long as they do that, and we're not paying CL wages (which we're not) we shouldn't have any more debt than anyone else.

It means in reality that we didn't have the playing staff required to keep us in the money, the debt will now be paid off from the last payments from the premiere league stay, and then the re building process will start, and be warned it will take a long time because there will be more than us squabbling over the few players that will be worth having in the Championship, now maybe some will see what others were worried about with those cup run having an effect overall ;)

I'd say having a rather large squad of mediocre players on those high wages is where it's cost us in the long run, look at the players sat on the bench Monday night... Gardner, Cuellar, Colback, Johnson, Altidore......... Larsson wasn't there. Even if all were on an average of 25K a week... that's still £150k a week sitting on the bench and just under £8mill a year. Seems a waste considering that doesn't include the fees we paid for them or the likes of Scocco or Ustari.....

Why can't we use the accademy to it's full potential, things like keeping Colback at the club or selling for nothing less than £4mill.

you've been running round screaming how doomed we are and now it's sad that the club starts to plan for the worst.
