Paying compensation for a manager

Being linked with the employed Still and Sable got me thinking about the last time we brought in a manager who was currently employed. Forgive me if it’s SEB and also if I’ve got it wrong but think it’s Jack Ross from St Mirren. Last one before that Steve Bruce from Wigan. Before that? I think it’s Denis Smith 😳.

Is that right? Just isn’t something we normally do.

The good thing about Sablé is that he'll not cost much because he's an assistant coach.
But you're on the money, Denis Smith was the last one before Bruce.

Coleman and Grayson let their contracts expire I believe. Might be wrong.
You may be right about Coleman, but we definitely paid compensation for Grayson.

Edit: Apparently we triggered a break clause in Coleman's contract when Wales didnt qualify for the WC, so didn't have to pay up.

Didn’t Coleman have to quit Wales before he come to us? Useless bazza should have stayed in tggfghhygghhhhjgcfvghhgogogogo

Ah I’d forgotten (selective memory or refused to believe) that we actually paid for the pleasure of Grayson. I mean, wow.

Just looked that up as well, you are right, although I suppose he was technically unemployed for 2 days?

Mid season, gonna be hard prising a manager away from somewhere, although I assume they have sounded potential managers out before they sacked Mowbray shirley if they are employed elsewhere

Shows that lack of ambition we’ve had in the past. I’m not saying there aren’t good managers out of work but it’s quite telling. No surprise we’ve had so many when we have always went for the cheapest option. You have to pay for quality.
