Patterson

no. i think over the course of a few games he might be a bit hesitant on one or two, or in the odd instance come for one and not get near it, but i think peoples natural perception is to only remember the iffy ones, and disregard the vast majority of crosses where he makes the right decision.

of course, he has loads of room improvement, but he is from a current starting position of being a very good, reliable, solid no nonsense championship keeper. at the age of 22.

on this thread we've had people say he's 'shite at crosses' , 'makes people nervous' and is 'poor with the ball at his feet'.

none of this is true (if you use the base standard as that of an average championship keeper)
I'd hate to run with him playing cricket " yes , no , sorry " . Hes a decent keeper but to become a top class one he has to get that out of his game , maybe he has to get a few wrong and accept that to get over his tendency to indescicion. He'd get pelters of course

He doesnt stand a chance on here like.

Came from nowhere at the end of last season, had a really good start to this and people still not having him.

First time he costs us a goal he is going to be pilloried.

Gone from being fucked around between us and Notts County to playing in front of 40,000 every week and people are picking apart every touch he makes.

Constructive criticism marra 😉

Well said, some are desperate for the mistake that they can get there teeth into.

I would give him MotM last night. He pulled off a couple of outstanding saves.

Blackpool had a dozen corners and given they had more height than us and were knocking decent balls in it's only natural there was one or 2 scares. Patto got himself under the ball and in no man's land once when he came but apart from that he did well.

His distribution is very good and he's comfortable with the ball at his feet.

I like the kid and he'll only get better.

Are you suggesting that we can’t say anything about players?

Most fans who understand football can see his potential but also his development areas.
Fans gave him the man of the match yesterday despite having a very shaky game.

The Blackpool keeper had a fantastic game with a blinding save to prevent a loss.

The local home grown players get an easier time.

I like Patterson. He has potential. He does need to up his game in two areas - set piece and distribution to move forwards.

The trouble is we’ve had some shocking keepers for a few years and he is streetscahead. Doesn’t mean we can’t criticise him.

theres something inherent in some Sunderland fans that they just need to say that our keepers are both poor at crosses and poor at distribution, regardless of what they actually see on the pitch
It’s not just the keepers. There are some really strange views on SAFC and football in general on this board. It’s baffling sometimes, almost like people have to be contrary to get attention. A lot of the views aired on this board are absolutely not reflective of opinions of people you talk to at the match or in the pub pre/post game.

He shouldnt even be under the microscope, played all of ANs games and has continued in this division. It smacks of people waiting for the mistake to say i told you so.Him and 09 got us the point last night.

The Blackpool keeper had a fantastic game ? He made one save whole game. Patterson made 3 in 10 mins second half , one of which was equally as “blinding” as that of his counterpart. He also managed two punch two corners out from under the bar whilst surrounded by pool strikers. He came and missed one cross , that translates to “ a very shaky game “ ??? Is that a serious comment ? We got a point last night and ultimately it was because of Patterson .

So he has some good games and this excuses poor ones?
Give over man

He needs proper coaching to develop. There is an excellent keeper in there But as he is only young it needs refining.
Onein is one of the strongest players at the club. He is further advanced than Patterson but is working on his game. Both excellent players but need time and help.

Ya reply shows what you really think. He needs proper coaching and has poor games.Give it a rest man.

I think he's fine generally but he always looks really nervous to me, which always makes me nervous!
Hes either nervous or so calm he doesnt seem to understand the seriousness of the situation 😄, Just how he looks and his personality i think but unnerving. Kind of like pickford in reverse , never seen him rally the defence i dont think , weird a keeper being so easy going .

Excellent tonight, one of the most impressive performances I've seen from him.
It was, his handling was faultless, escpecially given the slipperly conditions. He had a few dodgy passes passed across his goal which he dealt with very well and made a few good saves as well. He's the least of our worries and a breath of fresh air after some of the clowns we've had in goal recently - Camp, Steele, Ruiter, Burge, Matthews.

Very shakey? What game were you watching?

If it wasn't for him we would have lost

Beggers believe some of the stuff posted on here

I reckon that's just a reflection on you.

He doesn't make me nervous
