Patterson

It's a fine line, on one end you could have him panic clearing on the first touch when the striker is still a good 15 yards away and on the opposite end being too relaxed and allowing strikers to get close enough to make a challenge, the right answer is somewhere in the middle, being composed but not lax. he's a young lad, he is currently in the process of learning where these lines are.

Not a major criticism as he is so young and has hardly any experience but does anyone else feel very nervous with the ball at his feet? It’s not just been once or twice there’s a shaky/nervy instance basically once a game now.

Think it would be worth addressing as the goalkeeper coach, I think we’ll ship a goal at some point because of it, he needs to make his decision a lot earlier
No

Seems to take an age to release it at times, unlike pickford who tried to hit a forward too early at times. He's still young and will work on aspects of his game. Just wish we had a good experienced back up to bring him along a bit.

We waited for the players after the game ( me and my uncle) and Patto posed for a photo with us and thanked us for our support, we said ok patto thank you.

Op should be kinder.
How long do the players normally take to come out?

I always look back to our last Championship campaign and think how lucky we are to have him. He's not made a clanger yet whereas those three made one every game. He isn't finished article but he's an excellent keeper who will only get better.

Look at the football league highlights, quite a high percentage of goals are goalkeeper errors. I know all on here are not micro criticising him, just honest observations. He will improve with experience and age.
He's done great and will drop a few bollocks along the way. He's got the backing of the fans which is a big thing for unproven keepers. I'm more concerned if he gets injured or absence for a lengthy period of time.

Two centre backs on the edge of the six yard box isn't the way to play it out from the back. Whoever chose that option needs to rethink the strategy. It meant only one opposition player could cover all three players. Nearly cost us. Patterson is playing a major role for us. I believe he will be high Premiership and possibly England level in the next three years. Hopefully with us.
I think it was largely to try and invite Preston to pressure us and create space behind but they were content to sit in and we were a bit too slow moving it round the back. A lack of focal point upfront made things a lot harder for us at home against a side happy to sit deep.

Happens to a lot of keepers these days with this passing out from the back malarkey.

Incidentally I think he’s a cracking young goalkeeper and the bloke we brought in from Leeds (?) should help his development.

To be fair this criticism is is probably highlighted because of saturday. There were moans expecially late on Saturday but he had no options and everytime we'd went long forward it came straight back without Stewart or Simms to drop it into. The lack of an out ball at the moment is absolutely killing us and stopping us going forward quickly or floating a ball up to receive pressure.

We can't float a ball up to relieve pressure as we aren't able yo compete for it and we cant really knock one over the top, especially when theyre deep.

We did try to get Clarke released a lot early on but they got a but wise to it.

Opposition like Preston can just squeeze us at the moment and so we have to try and invited them to come out - like you said.

Tbh I always said this is what I wanted, and it wouldn't harm with extra advice etc but the more I think of it, surely the goalkeeper coach is an ex keeper with experience and should be telling him things.

For the record I think he'll be class for years at the club and he has shocked me how quickly he has proved himself.

Think it's an Italian ex leeds goalkeeper coach we have now isn't it? Patto has a big future in the game in my opinion

I agree to a point but there were times he could hit out attacking midfielders who were just inside our half in wide areas. If ball put in space in front of them the defenders are on the turn and in trouble. Not just yesterday though all season and half of last was the same. Not end of the world though as he's young and can't be finished article yet. Just something to work on.

I agree but the coach has to coach all keepers and won't usually socialise out of working hours. Team mates can discuss the game the time and older keepers mentor the next generation so can be better at it showing be example too. We're early on our journey back though so not expecting perfection. Just as close as it possible!

An outstanding academy kid been here since 10 ,being forensically disected by it seems to me fans hoping for a mistake.I watched MOD 2last night and thought not one of those keepers were as good as Patto.Horrendous mistakes in every game,if our lad made them the hounds on this thread would have a field day.Does anyone really think its his decision to piss about playing it short. We have a tremendous local lad who will be here for years to come, and we should be thankful for that.
