Patterson

Yes. He does have his nervy moments with the ball at his feet and we were saying same yesterday at match. Hopefully with experience he will stop that.

It's crazy all teams doing this playing out from the back shit. A few teams have came a cropper, we almost have a few times. Just fecking push up n launch it and remove the risk
The thinking is though that there’s a chance they hoof it upfield and it comes straight back and they score from giving them possession.

It’s a fine line though because like you say we’ve nearly been caught out a few times.

Only trouble is, we have no height in the team and we’ll be giving the opposition a good chance of winning possession. Personally I’ve got total confidence in the keeper and the way we are playing

He has his shortcomings, and I’m sure the coaching staff are working on them. He’s part of a very good team and has done a cracking job since coming into the side. We don’t need to micro analyse everything he does, let’s just let him develop. He has a good defence in front of him, is in a winning dressing room, and is playing first team football. Everything is there for him. Good luck to the lad he will only get better.

Honestly. For the first time in my SAFC supporting life there isn’t a single player to pick out for criticism. Hell, even Gooch and O’Nein have made me eat my words. I’ll be 30 clem and delighted if they keep this up all season!

Not a major criticism as he is so young and has hardly any experience but does anyone else feel very nervous with the ball at his feet? It’s not just been once or twice there’s a shaky/nervy instance basically once a game now.

Think it would be worth addressing as the goalkeeper coach, I think we’ll ship a goal at some point because of it, he needs to make his decision a lot earlier
Not just you mate. He is very slow with his feet and decision making. His reactions are outstanding tho.

I'd rather take the chance on it coming back from a long punt than patto giving it away in our 6 yard box

Goalkeepers shouldn't be judged on this

Big weakness in his game which needs work. He’s incredibly slow with the ball at his feet and has been targeted already this season. Both Norwich and Rotherham targeted him. Norwich nearly caught him. Still think he’s decent though

Hard to critisize Patto, he's been pretty solid IMO stepping up a level to the Championship and still young and learning.
He's saved more points than cost us but yes he needs to just get rid at times which will come with experience and coaching.
What's really encouraging is that he's not yet the finished article and is still improving, he's going to be one of the best keeper's we've ever had hopefully.

He’s full of promise. I don’t think he’s that bad with ball at feet, he does need to command his box more though and come for crosses, but that’s something all young keepers have and improves with experience

Two centre backs on the edge of the six yard box isn't the way to play it out from the back. Whoever chose that option needs to rethink the strategy. It meant only one opposition player could cover all three players. Nearly cost us. Patterson is playing a major role for us. I believe he will be high Premiership and possibly England level in the next three years. Hopefully with us.

He’s done well, I saw him against Wycombe at home last season and he was all over the place, dropped the ball when the ball boy chucked him it lol since then he’s been excellent and we don’t need to worry about the gk position at the moment
