Spot on.
As soon as the playoffs are mathematically impossible leave the loanees and end of contract lads at home and play the kids and ones who will still be here next year and to hell with the finishing position. It’s for the clubs own good.
Yep.

It's that time.

Another season wasted on using the perennial losers and no hope journeymen whilst we have these lads starring for the u23s at the same time getting zero to nil 1st team experience. You can also at Hawkes to this list.

Also add in Embleton who ironically was shipped out as no quiet ready and I looks like he will be playing in the play off final

If the club are serious about building a pathway tough decisions need to be made. Will the club be prepared to give young lads a chance and possibly miss out on promotion next season or will they go promotion at all costs?

You were absolutely bang on mind, I must now say.

People get all shitty when young lads fuck us off or finally get a chance - do well and reject contracts etc,

put yourself in the boots of a young'un who has come through the academy, your red and white 100% dedicated to the cause. You watch us get relegated from the Prem, sign absolute carthorses on big wages and we're relegated again. "Now's my chance" you'd think....But no, Danny Graham, Will Grigg, etc etc all on big wages, shockingly bad attitude and you still don't get a look in - In fact, because the club is constantly sacking managers and re-building, there is no actual plan for your development. So you sit in the Under 23's not even being loaned out to get experience.

What are you going to do if you finally get a chance in the first team and impress? Because I'm Sunderland through and through but i tell you what If the above happened to me id be f***ing right off for a club that has its shit together - not a chance id be letting safc ruin my career.

We really need to learn from the Maja episode.

Makes no sense how Diamond has been given a fair crack of the whip whilst a winger, whereas our problem areas, cb and cm, the younguns can’t even get a look in.

I’ll be amazed if they aren’t in the first team squad next season. They’ll loan Paterson out but the rest have to be at least match day squad regulars.

not only because they have some good quality and should be regarded as the future but there’s not a chance we can replace 19 out of contract players with 19 signings.

I reckon the club will go with the promotion at all costs strategy which has failed for the last 3 years

unfortunately for the academy players I can see heavy investment in the summer if we dont go up which will mean another season they dont break through..

Should these be a fixture in the side from now until the end of the season?

Forego promotion and try build for the future?
Just playing people doesn’t make them good. I wish people would realise that. Give me 1000 games in the side and I’m going to be as shit as I was in the first. The reason they aren’t getting in the team is because they aren’t as good as what we have.

I understand the need to hope that there must be something better, or to will young players on to do well, but it concerns me some think that the answer to being shite in league one is to fill the side with conference north players.

It just shows what a terrible job is being done at the Academy when the likes of Diamond (21), Younger (21) and Neil (19) can't get regular games in our 3rd Division (!) team, yet Leicester manage to produce Luke Thomas who is able to play in the Premier League and score against Man Utd at Old Trafford at the age of 19!

If we dont play them we will never know. These lads need experience sometime. Look at Embleton, never really been giving a proper chance here, now his finished above us and will be playing in the play off final. Ethan Robson is another example, released as not good enough, never really been given a chance, again the team he went 2 finished above us.

You could even use Sanderson as an example. He was only given a chance when all CB's were injured.

I dont have faith in those making the decisions that they are prepared to make tough calls, be prepared to really build a youthful side.

Our so called senior pros have proved yet again they arent up to it. They are weak losers

And your comments about conference north players is just a load of shite

The fact we have been in this league for 3 years, have a class 1 academy which was a premier league academy 4 years ago and yet have only brought through hume and maja and giving diamond a splattering of chances is an epic failure in my eyes. Even maja was only started through injuries (as was Sanderson) and this to me suggests a failure of managers being too cautious.whatever, its a failure of either the academy or managers. Mumba no worse than Dobson. Can't see how Dan Neill couldn't have offered as much as power, scowen or Winchester and putting younger on the bench when we only had one half fit centre half and not trying him is just laughable. No ones saying they would have set the world alight but would they really have done any worse....unfortunately we'll never know.

And the sad thing is come next season these lads will still have next to no experience and there will be a reluctance again to play them. There needs to be some brave decisions at some point

That exact argument was made about Maja when we were getting relegated from the championship. It was wrong then and its wrong now.

We never seem to have managers who understand that giving a talented young player game time in league one will aid their development.

If they are good enough then their performances will improve and as a team you will benefit.
