Patterson, Younger, Neil and Diamond

It would be good if people who say Patterson should be started would say how many times they have seen him play.

I do hope that nobody is going off the 'couldn't be any worse' theory that we have repeatedly disproved in the last 5 years.

I'd say hes just as ready as the other 2
Just spoke to a lad on the phone about last night who’s forever the optimist and knows his football. He’s made a good point that throughout football managers would rather give seemingly seasoned pros a regular game week in week out even though they are f***ing shite(Leadbitter and Scowen) yet young lads who look canny get 1/2 a game then out of the team/match day squad to make way for the seasoned shite that continues to underperform and are only getting worse.

With the manger now under the cosh due to losing points hand over fist he will revert to picking these seasoned pro’s in the hope they keep him in a job.

They have no chance really.

Yes - but I think it’s tough to make these sorts of strategic decisions mid-season - at least when we are still in the race. For all we don’t look like a good bet for promotion, it’s so transformative for the club that I don’t think we can forget about it till the chance is completely gone. As such, the new regime is kinda mandated to keep chasing it for now. The time for sweeping changes is the summer, really.
Spot on.
As soon as the playoffs are mathematically impossible leave the loanees and end of contract lads at home and play the kids and ones who will still be here next year and to hell with the finishing position. It’s for the clubs own good.

Just need to be extra careful with young keepers. It's a pressure cooker environment atm, and an early bad mistake could really disrupt him, especially coming in midway through the season. Appreciate that needs must, but I'd really like to see him get a pre-season in as first choice before he's starting every week in the league.

Nah; you don't throw four in in one go and Diamond's wasteful as hell so far - one game aside.

Neil in.

Younger stands out though. Patterson might be an emergency and a must as things stand; haven't seen him play, personally.

Three games for me, twice for the under 23's against Leeds where he had plenty of action and I think he played in one of the pizza cup games where he got beaten by a daisy cutter.
As I've said he looks a prospect, but these two keepers in front of him in the pecking order look to have a mistake in them every time they are on the pitch and that is with a relatively reliable back four.

Absolutely.

Out first 11 don't seem capable of going on a run, which we will need if we are to go up either automatically or via the play offs.

Get the youngers on week in week out now IMO. Give them consistent experience and time to gel together. Regardless of what happens at the end of the season, this will help provide a strong backbone for next season, as we are going to need to do some mass recruitment. Combine this with potentially a hungry new owner and the abolishion of the salary cap and we would be looking very strong next August with some intelligent work in the summer window.

People talk about going into our first team as if that is a level of competence.
We are a mid-table L1 team at present who could not get a point at Shrewsbury despite being granted an offside goal start.
The standard is hardly intimidationg for these lads

Neil and Diamond should be in the starting 11 full stop. Younger looked confident and assured when he came on last week, and if those 2 keepers are making such big errors, what other option is there than to give Pattinson a run in the side?... at least if he makes a mistake, he's young enough to learn from it.

It wasn't long ago I was saying Parkinson needed to find his balls, take more chances, and be more dynamic with his selections. Theres an element of groundhog day keeping in again, now under Johnson.

No. Not at youth level. When Henderson went to Liverpool the infamous thread on here comparing the two is what I’m asking. Out with it. It’s good for the soul to admit your failings....
Henderson's physical prowess and desire to be better came to fore while Colback's total lack of self belief began to surface. So it ended the way it did. Tell you what though watching our U23's (21's?) With Henderson, Meyler, Colback and Luscombe across the middle was tremendous. 3 out of 4 making good careers in the game is some achievement.

Meylers last 8or9 games before his injury really showed him progressing at a rate unseen before. Kyle was the same, the best form of his career then an injury. We’d nivver be fending off bids from the big boys for either but they were looking like two less positions to worry about in the immediate future.

Not many straws left for people on here to clutch. Under 18’s keeper might be canny like.
There game against Leeds on Saturday is hopefully on and Leeds stream it.They had a game today against Boro which is obvs off due to snar.

Kid upfront for Boros u18’s who’s from sunderland Will play for England one day.I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t.

I've always been a huge fan of Henderson since he broke into our 1st team. Always rated him higher than Colback but have to say I thought Colback would go on to be a decent Prem quality player.

EDIT: I really rated Meyler as well was disappointed when he left.
