Patterson’s kicking

I thought his kicking was spot on tonight.
His kicking during the warm up was inch perfect but during the match, oh dear, however he did throw the ball once and it was very good, but in general his shot stopping is up there with the best of them whilst his distribution is not.

A good young goalkeeper but needs to improve this areas of his game massively. Been in the team roughly 3 seasons now and no improvement in his kicking. The goalkeeping coaches should be really working with him on this. Kicked it straight out 3 times tonight. Great win by the way. Massive difference having a clever and experienced player like Pritchard in there
Madly I think every one he kicked out was a dead ball. He seems to distribute better under pressure. Moves it well & uses both feet. Goal kick & he boots it into the dug out.

Agree he needs to keep working on it and get better. Top keepers use their feet really well.
Disagree he's shown no improvement in three seasons. He's light years from where he was when he got into the team. Some of his passes are really good. He's clearly working on it and I think will hit a decent mark as he's very young for a keeper still.
His actual goalkeeping was bang on again too!

One poor goal kick but bar that was excellent.

Sunderland fans doing Sunderland fan things and looking to criticise our own, people were throwing digs at Neil after West Brom.

Most annoying thing about our fans.

Couldn’t disagree more, the most annoying thing easily by our fans on this board, (not at the match as you can have these conversations no bother) is the complete refusal to discuss anything negative.

The OP absolutely lives for these threads I’ve noticed, seems to get a kick out of it, but the point about Patterson is correct. He’s a really good young keeper, but surely someone should be working with him on his kicking.

He does it at least once a game, I counted twice against West Brom and at least 3 times last night, he really struggles with it and it’s really annoying as it just piles on the pressure if we are defending a lead.

As I’ve said you can have this convo in the ground no bother, soon as you mention it on here your a fanny or talking shit.

You’re allowed to think he’s a good goalkeeper and also not great with his feet. It’s always been a problem and sometimes it puts us right under pressure. Everyone around me in the ground noticed it last night as well.

It’s a message board for discussion, nothing wrong with bringing it up

Goalkeepers have strengths and weaknesses and his kicking is his weakest area. It’s still overplayed though by some. I can’t recall any goal we have conceded a result of his kicking and over that 3 years probably every other keeper has done a monumental fuck up. I think he’s good enough with his feet for us to play how we do and the rest of his game is very good.

Couldn’t disagree more. He played some fantastic balls into advanced areas of our half. I actually thought his footwork and distribution was spot on tonight.
He was asked to find the extreme wings, he put the ball out twice, so what.

😂😂😂😂

Love how you’ve changed your tune. You literally had an argument with me saying he doesn’t do it, now there’s no hiding he does it’s changed to, “we don’t concede from it”.

It’s the same with absolutely everything. I’ve sat in the same seat for as long as I remember, can discuss our pros and cons no bother, really good constructive discussion, soon as you do it on a football forum your called all sorts it’s ridiculous.

I think it was tactically kicked out for thrown-ins on purpose towards the end.

We were very deep, no chance of Pritchard winning a header against the CB's, and it allowed us to pin them back in, reset and bring our defensive line up higher.

He pulled off a save that stopped them going 1 up early on, it could have been a different result if that goes in.

Onana is brilliant with his feet but can't catch.....
Am sure he works on it but the lad is an excellent goalkeeper and his distribution is more than adeuate.

Always bemuses me how people watch a great win and then are desperate to find something to worry about. We have a very good, young team who are improving all the time. Don't worry, be happy

As with any text based communication, it needs to be worded right. No recognition of a great performance by him and just criticism will always get an opposing reaction.

There were a couple of loose ones but the majority of the time he found a player, under pressure too. There was also no recognition that for the past three years he has barely kicked a ball out so it’s not been a skill practiced under pressure. My opinion is that he’ll come good.

Blows my mind that you probably think this doesn't happen, in every. single. training session.

Patto is a great keeper who will only get better. My only observation is that at times rather than pass the ball out from the back a quick kick out to players up the field could provide better attacking opportunities.

People recognise all the time and point out positives, as soon as they state a negative it goes bang on here. Doesn’t happen in the ground on here is a nightmare for it. In my post I even pointed out Patterson is a great young keeper, and look at the responses I’ve had straight away.
I was wondering what sort of sh*t and trivia the usual suspects would look for to feed their insane desire for negativity.

😂😂😂😂

There we go. Walking out of the ground last night everyone was buzzing, there was convos going on all over about the game. However there was also convos about how Ba was poor at times and how Patto needs to work on his kicking. Everyone was happy and having perfectly constructive conversations.

Come on a forum literally designed to discuss football and try to have the same convo and there’s comments like this, and ya get called worse than shit. Absolutely laughable, I swear people must have unlimited sand on this forum.
