Why on earth should Sunderland in the third tier for the 3rd consecutive year be in any position to win a league by a mile and why would you expect Colchester and Bolton too. This is part of the problem the belief that because we are Sunderland we should be pissing all over everyone. It’s a load of bollocks
We’ve got by far the biggest resources available in this league. We should expect nothing less than automatic promotion.

I thought when we dropped into this toilet we'd start top two and stay there all season! That was two seasons ago

Other than by default having played Charlton earlier than any other game on the first day of the season, have we ever managed to be top of this division?

I honestly don’t think we have.

It’s not though and we should. We have had a massive financial advantage on the rest of the league. We’re also in a year where the majority of the clubs are struggling due to Covid.

Colchester United
Finished 2nd place
Points: 79
GD: +18
GF: 58
GA: 40

In 18/19 good enough for 6th place

Bolton Wanderers
Finished 2nd place
Points: 86
GD: +32
GF: 68
GA: 36

In 18/19 good enough for 5th place

Sunderland AFC 18/19 under Jack Ross
Finished 5th ace
Points: 85
GD: +33
GF: 80
GA: 47

Point here is that Parkinson has never been able to lead to team to hammer a division to secure promotion. His teams simply don’t score the goals and his two automatic promotions have taken advantage of a lower total needed. This is our blueprint for the season and surely is a concern? I’ve included his Bradford promotion that also supports this.

I’ve also included his Bradford City promotion below.

Bradford City
Finished 7th place
Points: 69
GD: +11
GF: 63
GA: 52

Good enough for 11th place in 18/19.

Good God. There are valid reasons to criticise him. Pretending that all of his promotions were bad promotions is ridiculous.

He took Colchester into the Championship, having secured their highest ever league position, even though they were the smallest club in League One. It was the equivalent of getting Accrington Stanley promoted this season.

He took Bolton up even though they had nearly gone under, they weren't allowed to sign any players other than free transfers, and they were the only team in the Division operating under a wage cap. He kept them up the next season, relegating us in the process, the season after we had been in the Premier League.

He not only got Bradford promoted, he got them to the League Cup Final while in League 2, the Fa Cup Quarters beating Chelsea and us, and into the League One playoffs.

There have been places he has done poorly - Hull and Charlton - but I doubt any of the fans of any of the clubs you mention give a flying fuck how many points they got in their promotion winning seasons. It's completely irrelevant.

Where does he pick up these attacking players from? They cost money. Donald has lost interest and we are shopping in the bargain bin market now.

He couldn’t give a fuck about attack ! Playing Wyke with the option of Grigg and Graham as a desperate last 10 mins more of the same proves that ! He thinks he can win things from defence ! However when we concede like yesterday he is utterly f***ing lost on how to retrieve it

Colchester was 15 f***ing year ago man.
What he done then has no bearing on his management today, the game has moved on.

It’s more of the Jack Ross play not to get beat type of football, solid, don’t concede many don’t score many, I’d rather have someone who style is to attack and press The other team, the modern way most teams do even 3rd division teams, who that is I don’t know!

you seem to only ever post these days to deflect from any criticism of Parky. A very weird hobby to take up.

How have we got a massive financial advantage no match day income and probably the highest out going to cover the huge infrastructure we have means it could hit us harder than those with less monthly expenditure

Let's apply this logic elsewhere too. Alex Ferguson's highest points total at Manchester United was 91 points, only enough for a 2nd place finish in 2017, 2018 and 2020, while it would have got you 3rd in 2019. The point is that Alex Ferguson has never been able to hammer a division to secure the title, and has merely relied on a lower points total to win it.

This now doesn't sound right, does it?

A lower points total indicates a far more competitive division, i.e. tougher teams. Everyone seems to be in agreement that the Premier League is far less competitive now than it ever was, so why is it taking a record amount of points to win it?

Pointing out the grim reality isn’t allowed on here mate. You’re supposed to pretend we are great because we narrowly beat Crewe at home.
The usual suspects will be along to tell you why pointing out facts about Parky and his teams is unfair.

I think it's more a case of how utterly depressing it is to have Phil Parkinson as our manager. He's as dull as ditch water and his teams match that.

Surely a better indicator would be how often those points totals would win promotion in the past say 15 season as opposed to picking one season
