Parkinson says we'll sign a keeper.

Alnwick's a fine goalkeeper at this level. I'd rather prioritise our budget on other areas of the team than blow hundreds of thousands on a goalkeeper for the purpose of sitting on a bench.
You do need some insurance if a keep gets a season ending injury

Signing Alnwick would concern me. Hope it’s not the case.

To be really honest I don't even know how good or bad a keeper he is these days but it just shows that Parkinson is so limited in his scope and ideas and is unable to change or adapt.

He isn’t going anywhere soon. We need to judge him after he’s tweeked the squad and had his own pre season to prepare us the way he wants us to play. Let’s hope and pray he gets it right.

True
Let’s judge him in 5 years eh! He’s f***ing shite man! Have some pride.

Ffs not Ben Alnwick! I wouldn't be happy if we signed him. But people knocking Parkinson is out of order . Burge isn't as good as mcloughlin and a youth keeper is miles of this standard. If parky is looking for a better keep then Burge I'm right behind his thinking as it is really what we need to improve the team. We should be looking to sign better than what we have in every position, it's the only way to improve the team.
That last b it'll never catch on at safc under current ownership

Some merit in that argument. The single year commitment doesn't exactly show commitment to his development, mind. The bigger issue is that the idea of us investing precious resources into competition at keeper is utterly braindead. Absolutely terrible waste. Keepers simply don't rotate. If Burge isn't good enough, replace and dispose of him. Don't leave us wasting money by having a similar standard keeper (with similar wage demands) sat on the bench every single week. Once again SAFC prove themselves to be incredibly dumb and 10 years out of date.
I'd say we need a better keeper than Burge. He isn't going to say that out loud at this stage, he's going to say there's competition. Id rather they chucked money on a striker definitely but what they say and do may be different things entirely. Not saying i have much faith btw ...

Patterson needs game time obviously, but I'm not sure how much of a benefit it will be loaning him out much lower than the third tier.
Quite a few England international goalkeepers from the last 10 years have played league 2 or below. It's good experience for him, need look no further than our own Jordan Pickford.

What is your motivation? Your posts seem to constantly run against the general view and seem perversely positive. If you went on the message boards of the clubs he has represented you will find that they all say he is a poor keeper. You can say that fans know nothing but having watched him they'll know more than you. What on earth leads you to say that he is a 'fine goalkeeper'? A quick scan of Bolton's message board will find comments about Alnwick such as:

'I couldn't believe it when we signed him. I'm fairly certain his career was some kind of social experiment. Either that or a practical joke that got out of hand'.

If that is a typical view of his most recent clubs fans - who have seen him way more than you - please tell me why you say he's 'fine'? Or is it that you are just on a wind up as many on here believe?

That's the same lazy line that the current owners have been spouting since they got here. It's horseshite. We don't need people who've had proximity to success. We need players who have ability.

We don't need people who cannot be arsed either, would be crackers.

Just give one of the younger lads the number 2 spot and see if they can hack it. f***ing idiots.

Yeah fair point (as per @FulwellViaLeeds too). I obviously have a low tolerance for dumb, cliched manager speak:lol:. Still think that competition at keeper is a load of old shite but, so long as that’s not PPs real intention - and that Alnwick isn’t his target - I’ll be comfortable enough so long as we’re paying Burge buttons.
Just read what he said there. “Cover and competition” definitely sounds like a backup. It will be ben alnwick.

He’s been without a club for a year. That tells you a lot
he's got experience getting promoted from this division which could be key.
Like flanagan has?
And mclaughlin?
And grigg?
And power?
and like reece james had?

How about we sign actual good players instead of having the laziest recruitment team in the history of football?

Yes. Very early to judge a manager who has not had time to either bring players in or have a close season with the current squad.
And if he fails he will have done no worse than many before.

Steady mara. Where did I say I wanted him FFS. The reality is he ain’t going anywhere till he gets it wrong. If you think we are about to change manager in the next couple of months your deluded.
