Parking in a child parking space

This. I have a 5 year old and a 6 year old. They are both tall for their age (hoping the 6 year old will be too tall for her seat in the next year) and still both in the car seats.

The 5 year old has inherited his father’s spatial awareness and if we don’t park in a parent and child space I have to physically hold the door so it doesn’t clatter into the car next to us. His car seat is also an absolute nightmare for getting the seatbelt fastened because it’s just slightly too wide so the seatbelt clip is obstructed by the seat which involves having the door wide open and leaning right over him. When his sister grows out of hers I’ll give him her seat which should make life easier.

Our parents didn’t legally have to have us in high backed booster seats until we were 4ft5 though. That’s where the extra obstacle is.

Fair point that.

My Dad drove me home from hospital after being born in the footwell of a Hillman Imp, rolling around all over the place.

Love it when I take me mother shopping. Can use her disabled pass or the parent and child parking.
It's great.
I think that was a joke about the parent & child, but I also think you’re well within your right to use the disabled spaces if she’s got a pass. It’s to benefit her.

Do you mean they'll be able to go in a booster instead?
They are in the high back booster type car seat with seatbelt at the moment. The main car has Britax Romer seats in and the runaround has generic Kiddicare ones.

My daughter is 4ft4 even though she’s only 6 (nearly 7) so only has an inch and a half to grow before she doesn’t need one.

My daughter is 7 and really tall too. She loves her car seat though, I'll be happy when they're out of them at I still have to fasten them in as there isn't much room in the back.

Never seen why child parking spaces are necessary anyway
Getting the car seats in and out can be a right struggle. Not only is it good for the parent to get a little more space, its good for you not to have one parked next to you, possibly dinting your doors.

When we just had one kid, we'd park slightly over on one side - but with twins, nope!
I never use them, I always just park at the far end of the car park where none of the fat, lazy, self entitled sweaty messes that populate this land ever go.
& that's my other plan. Park out the way, in some space.
But some knacker always - and I mean f***ing ALWAYS - parks right f***ing next to me, despite there being double spaces all over the place.
It isn't policed at any supermarket anyway so any bugger could use them.
It isn't policed because even a smidge of human decency should prevail
Me ma never had special bays when I was a kid so they’re fair game to use imo.
Cars are generally wider now
Parking spaces not so much.
It’s a piece of piss to get kid out seat like. Unbuckle and lift them out.
Under 1's often have the entire car-seat coming out and clicking onto the pram.
Try doing that with twins when you've got 2 cars a foot away.
agree they don’t need to be at the front though. Parents should take responsibility for their kids and hold their hands in car parks.
If someone has 3 kids, but only 2 hands?
We didn't have proper booster seats. My booster seat was a seat cushion from an old sofa 😁
I didn't even have seat belts until I was about 8. I remember flying across the back bench of the car
As a baby, apparently it was just a moses basket on your knee!

Always seems to be a Range Rover parked in them without children round here.

they do come in handy when you have a baby or infant, as most people can’t park straight anyway

In fairness, until you have a bunch of kids to sort for yourself, you just have no idea how hard it is. I certainly didn't.
One kid was easy. 1 + twins = I just don't go out unless I can help it, frankly.
In sticking with one like. People with more than one often look miserable and worn out in public.

My Grandpa's car was like that as it didn't have any seatbelts at all in the back. I think it was a Vauxhall Viva.

Seat belts in the back were not common when I was growing up, in the 80s. Mind, its not like we were buying new cars then!

you do wonder which f***ing genius sat down and directed 80% of the traffic past the front door - amazed they've never changed it

I've done click and collect there and they put the van for that right over the far side of the car park, so you have to drive past the store doors to access it. Would make more sense putting it near the recycling skips and keeping traffic away from the building.
