Parking - Durham City

I would say that if you are wanting to be in and out quick then The Sands multi-storey car park is your best idea. It is halfway up (or down) Claypath and then you turn off down towards the Sixth Form Centre, go a tiny bit past there and then turn left into the car park. Probably about a 10-15 minute walk from there up to the court, depending on the speed you walk.

I got called up for jury duty there in Feb last year but only did one day as I caught covid at exactly the wrong (or right) time. My post route is just 5 minutes further away from the centre of Durham so I just ended up parking my car on someone's drive who I knew for all of one day.

Are you looking for an exciting case or a boring one?

Don’t know where the OP lives but let’s say Sunderland, if he parked near the court (old Elvet/Racecourse area) he’d be back at Houghton on the A690 by the time he’d walked to the other side of town.

Never had any bother getting away from that side of town on an afternoon/evening.
Parking free after 2pm in Durham City.

Yep, ideal.

It's a nightmare trying to park there early on a morning. @percy would probably be your best bet to ask if it's alright around there that time.

It's been pretty bad this week with there being open days at the University. Pot luck most of the time. Should be OK down Green Lane.

Yeah that's a fair point. I don't think I've ever been that far down tbf.

Oddly enough I drown down past the prison and onto old Elvet about 8.40 this morning and there was plenty of spaces.
As Percy said, it's probably pot luck most days. Good thing for the OP is that if he is required in April, most of the students should be away for Easter break so I'd expect it to be quite a bit quieter down Old Elvet way and up towards the Uni buildings.

tbf I'm never down old elvet until after 10 so don't know how busy it is early doors.

Getting there early morning I'd definitely go for whichever park and ride is on your way in. The court is walkable from the town centre. If carville is your nearest it will only be a 5min walk to the court. Likely nearer than parking.

It's the weeks either side of easter weekend so hopefully be quiet. I was looking on google maps at Green lane/Old Elvet and thought if I get there early enough I should get a space. Are you allowed to park in that area for the whole day with no restrictions on length of parking time. Another option was Prince Bishops for £8.50 a day.

On a side note -anyone recommend a pub in the city Centre for good food ?
We are off to the Elm Tree next week for beer -but looks like not for eats as no food on .
Cheers

Contrary to popular piss taking, there's loads of places to eat in Durham, but nearest to Elm tree I'd recommend are The Bridge ( under the viaduct) and The Head of Steam just off North Road, both have great food. Enjoy.

Been called up for Jury service in April for 2 weeks at Durham Crown Court, Elvet.
It's been years since I was through Durham and have absolutely no idea where to park.
Anyone have any idea where is best/cheapest and near to the court for a full day.
Is the park and ride viable from Carrville considering I have to be there for about 9am.

cheers all

Do they not give you the money back?
