Parking - Durham City

K3NA

Midfield
Been called up for Jury service in April for 2 weeks at Durham Crown Court, Elvet.
It's been years since I was through Durham and have absolutely no idea where to park.
Anyone have any idea where is best/cheapest and near to the court for a full day.
Is the park and ride viable from Carrville considering I have to be there for about 9am.

cheers all

Yeah park and ride easiest by the sounds of it. Drops you off on milburngate bridge. If you went and parked at Howlands I’m sure it stops nearer to the court on its way in.

Park in Gilesgate and walk / cycle down. 20/30 minutes tops.

Paid parking on the streets surrounding the court but that could become costly over the space of a couple of weeks.

Often hard to get those spaces I think?
Prince Bishops car park would be the next closest off the top of my head. Fairly easy to get to (as you come down Gilsegate bank, stay left and take the 2nd turn off the roundabout - around 10pm on the clockface, and then its on the left)

Assume you can claim parking expenses?

There is bay parking right outside the court and along the fields opposite the prison, it’s relatively cheap and no hassle if you arrive around 9am, jurors can claim expenses anyway.

My brother lives in them new houses where Whinney hill school was, I park on his drive for town nowadays but there’s a couple spots in that development

Park and ride the other side may work out better ,near botanic gardens ,bus will pass the courts down the hill or a 15 min walk

Not sure about parking, the info states to contact the court in question to see if it pays for parking. I can claim other expenses though. Looks like some courts do and some don't.

I imagine they only don’t pay parking if the court has free parking.

Last time i was on jury service at Durham we could claim for parking but that was about 4 year go

I just used park and ride at belmont and it worked well

I was called up for jury service there about 8 years back.
Was only selected once, on the last day, and it was thrown out immediately
The rest of the two week stint, there was no wifi or 3G signal in the "waiting room", so hopefully thats not the case anymore, otherwise, stock up on some books/magazines

As we're asking, anyone have any advice of parking for the Gala Theatre tomorrow? About 11.30am to 1.30pm.

Cheers.
