Paris - travel advice

I'm off to Paris in a couple of weeks for the weekend
I'm planning to mainly use a card over there but I'm guessing it would be wise to have a few Euros in cash maybe €50 or so
I've never been abroad for years so I've no idea
Is it cheaper to get the cash over here or take it out from an ATM over there

If you withdraw cash over there you'll just get whatever exchange rate your bank use that day which you won't know beforehand, as well probably paying a fee depending on which bank you're with (it's free with Monzo). Easier to just get some here and take it with you I'd say.

Chase bank account been brilliant for me abroad. Been in Milan for 4 days hardly needed any cash. Exchange rate for getting your cash out at ATM will likely be tripe. 50/75 euros probably see you right for tips and emergencies

Get yourself a Starling/Monzo/Revolut card. Top it up and use it as you would any debit card. You can get cash out over there.

If ever asked on a card reader or ATM, always pay in the local currency, never allow them to charge you in pounds, you'll get a terrible rate.
Tried to use an ATM in Spain and they tried to charge me €7. Things like the bus wouldn’t accept card everything else was fine
There's no charges in France from bank ATMs. Spain is a nightmare for it.

Bloody is... I was in France skiing last week and the credit agricole machine wanted 5 euro per transaction... Another ATM was free

Probably too late to get one of the dedicated debit cards now - my debit card charges 3% for atm transactions so it’s probably as easy just to get some cash out over there for the sake of a couple of quid
Thankfully my credit card doesn’t charge exchange fees for purchase transactions
Thanks for all your help guys

You can still get Revolut and have it as a virtual card on your iphone and just use Apple Pay. Takes no time at all to set up.

They take 5 mins to setup and it'll arrive within a few working days. You've got plenty of time.

Revolut will come with plenty of time to spare. I misplaced my card days before travel last year and they had a new one with me in two days.

Have used it all around the world and it is been flawless tbh

Jaja credit card for me , bank rate of exchange rather than tourist rate and no fees .

Combined with the app it shows immediately how much you’ve spent .

Same, something's changed in Spain. No idea if its the same in France though

I got a Revolut card, and load Euros on it before I travel now.

Works with Google wallet too.

Fair enough. Never had an issues in Poland with withdrawing cash just Spain

Some French banks charge for non EU transactions. Most didn't when we were there last June. All the ATM's tell you if they are going to charge you so either keep trying until you find one that does not charge or look on the internet to find out which ones do charge.

I’m there on the 11th so should miss the strikes
I’m planning on using a credit card with a zero % Euro transaction rate for most of the weekend so I only really need cash for an emergency hence I’m hoping I only need about 40 or 50 Euro

Credit card

Depending on how you like to vacation take cash for some out of way places if you are going to frequent off main street resteraunts/ bars

Bus stops generally all have usb charger built in, in case you are running low. Supply your own wire
