Paraplegic man drags himself through airport

So they lost his wheelchair and as a result he reckons he was forced to drag himself through the airport, which he says was humiliating...they offered him a replacement wheelchair to use, which he refused.

    What a tit.

Read that "this was my only viable option". It wasn't though, was it?

The "news" is chocker block with attention seekers mind.

  4. He went the wrong way to make a point but Airlines are fucking shocking where wheelchairs are concerned.

Went with easy jet to Faro last month in my day old wheelchair. They got it out of the hold and it had dints all over it

They need to take more care, the useless fuckers
  5. The very definition of a litigious twat.

Fancy suing the bloody airport?!? Attention-seeking martyr.

He's no better than the lass who blacked up her daughter for Hallowe'en to get her pyat in the papers.

I'd love to see what The Last Leg make of him tonight!
  6. He refused the offer of having use of their chair and being pushed because he thought that humiliating (presumably, he could have used the chair and pushed himself, as many, many wheelchair users do, without them being humiliated) and ends up dragging his arse along the floor and launching himself into a taxi using a luggage trolley, because that's not humiliating.

    Fucking compo central.

From the wording of the article, not so.
From that I have an image of airport wheelchairs having small wheels like the A&E ones, so nothing he could use to propel himself with.
  8. Dragging himself through the airport was a better option?

  9. That will more than likely be the case. I understand his point, that his ability to move without having to rely on others has been taken away by the incompetence of the airline.

However I would have just accepted the offer of a push (as I'm a lazy twat) and played merry hell with them.

I suppose him doing this has brought has how shite airlines are to everybody's attention again though

If you scratch the surface of a lot of these outrage stories it’s very often the case that it isn’t that the company or organisation concerned has treat the “victim” badly, it’s just that the “victim” hasn’t been treated well enough in their opinion due to an overinflated sense of their own entitlement.
  11. Howver he acted afterwards doesnt excuse how badly he was treated by the airline

I wouldn't have said so, no.

I was merely pointing out that he probably couldn't propel himself on the chair offered.

Mistakes happen. Things can go missing. It could have been a suitcase, a pram or a wheelchair.

They didn’t go out of their way to inconvenience a disabled person, as the narrative would often try and have you believe.
  14. No they didn't do it on purpose but are you saying you wouldn't be annoyed if it was your suitcase, pram, buggy or car that was damaged or lost because of someone failing to do their job properly?

    Of course, no story otherwise.

  16. Reading more into the story why can't Luton airport stock self propelled wheelchair like lots of other airports?

Something simple like that would have solved this. Not deliberate but ignorant of wheelchair users needs

    Of course I’d be annoyed.

What I wouldn’t then do though is reject any assistance offered to me in a fit of petulance and deliberately make the experience worse and then go to the papers about it.

They didn't and tried to sort something for him, no pleasing some.

Fair play to the lad, life has dealt him a bad hand but he's made the best of it and achieved great things.

He's stuck by his principles and should be applauded for that. If an airport of that size can't provide a decent wheelchair in this day and age then they shouldn't be in business.
