How are they fake btw? Because they're English?

Yes. Ultras are a part of a culture; are you suggesting they are part of the English culture?[DOUBLEPOST=1393108508][/DOUBLEPOST]
So they're revered by the pyro crowd and laughed at by the grown ups?

Pretty much.[DOUBLEPOST=1393108662][/DOUBLEPOST]
That's fair enough but you are wrong. They sing all game. There is nothing special about spontaneity if few join in. It only really happens if we score.
Some in the south stand do their best, most can't be arsed. But to have a go at Palace fans for actually vocally supporting their side as well as putting on a show in the ground just comes across bitter and jealous. Palace are not what they once were. They're almost like the St. Pauli of England these days, a toned down version perhaps but their support will continue to get better. They're putting opposition fans to shame on a weekly basis.

It is.

But people aren't doing that.

Nonsense. Christ, all it took against Chelsea in the league cup for the atmosphere to be lifted was a topless clown prancing about the pitch. I'm not just specifically referring to Sunderland either. Im defending the general traditional style of the majority of English football clubs.

English support is spontaneous and passionate. It isnt choreographed and orchestrated. Palace have adopted a continental style of support where they sing constantly and bang a drum. Its noisy and it is continuous but it doesnt seem sincere or heartfelt. Thats why I dont like it. For all the "special nights at Anfield" has become a cliche, I would take their atmosphere every time over Palace's.

No bitterness or jealousy at here. I just dont like it.

What traditional style? The English atmosphere for the most part is embarrassing, around many grounds it's all but dead. Wake up man and accept things have changed, dramatically.

You might not like it but the fact is, they are creating an atmosphere where as the many are struggling to create one. Probably because we have people who are too stubborn to join in simply because they do not "like it".[DOUBLEPOST=1393108917][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think it's quite obvious they are. It's a shock to some people's system that little old Palace who have always had a shite support are showing the big boys how it's done.

Palace fans sing all game even though they are shite - orchestrated bollocks. Man Utd fans sing all game - its cos they win all the time. Some on here either simply cannot give credit where its due or like to slate for the sake of arguing. Sunderland have even set up a singing end which has been filled by loads who aren't interested in singing in the slightest ffs.

Id say there are about 200 at the back of the south stand who at least try and keep the singing/chanting going throughout the match and that's about it. And even then this place has go.

Its as if a good sing song and atmosphere is frowned upon.

Bold point - To who?
Italics point - to be honest, anything I didnt like I wouldn't join in with

To who? To us and everyone else around the world man. Even the yanks are now creating a better atmosphere than we can usually muster. Orchestrated? Yes by your definition but it seems a hell of a lot better than arguing, moaning and generally being depressed unless we're winning. But that's your prerogative, it's obvious you're not going to change and probably don't give a shite anyhow.

Have excellent vocal support (primarily away - like most). Traditional, sing relevant songs at the relevant time, support the manager when things might be getting hairy for him etc etc. Yes, it must have been very easy for them to support their side over the past twenty years or so but it is still decent.[DOUBLEPOST=1393109407][/DOUBLEPOST]
If its a choice between silence and a song I think is shit I d pick singing the song I thought was shit every time.

Perfect example of this the Steven Taylor songs. Unless he was playing and had been acting up, it wouldnt enter my head to join in with those chants.

Man Utd away fans are streets ahead of every other set of English away fans, without a doubt. Sing all game regardless and have easily the most songs (cos they don't just stick with the same old five 'traditional' songs and are always coming up with new stuff) with almost all of their away fans seemingly a 'singer'.

I have a mate who was over for the Arsenal league game this season. The previous year he had taken games in all over Europe. He said, without being disingenuous, that the atmosphere in the south stand that day was better than he had experienced anywhere else he had been. Im fairly sure that none of us would class that game as a classic Sunderland atmosphere either.

Do I want to see Sunderland become a gimmicky club with drums, long banners displaying meaningless and insincere messages to the outside world in order to make them think we look uber? Definitely not. Id rather an American was sitting filming our support at Old Trafford acting in a spontaneous, un-orchestrated and delirious fashion than banging a drum to a flying paper Eagle.
