im lost! he was facing someone(your words) then they passed the ball to him and it arrived from his left(your words)..anyhow its not rocket science you prepare for the pass by getting your body the right side of it to control it properly,i can't see how the left foot would come into it unless the pass was put behind him and he had to pull round

You are lost mate. Where did I say it came to him from his left? I said it came to him on his left side. In other words he was facing Roberge who played the ball to him and it came to Cattermole's left foot and instead of doing the easy thing and controlling it with that foot he tried to bring his right one across and ended up missing it altogether.

Shit weighted pass, catts could either stop it dead with agbon 3 feet away, or try and do whatever the fuck he was doing, dead mans ball either way imho....

When's Brown's ban up? :s

Edit 5 wrong thread title, meant goal not f***ing own goal!!
That's total rubbish. Cattermole took his eye off the ball on this occasion. It was a normal standard touch and drag ball which he missed. If cattermole was worried about the pass to him and he felt it endangered his position he could have booted it clear then got onto Dossena.

He didn't. It is simple. No-one's fault but Cattermole's.

Dunno like mate there's a few on here saying it was both of them at fault, for reasons explained in great detail. The replay is also on here, have a watch...

bollocks, if a premiership player cannot control a ball played to his feet he shouldn't be anywhere near the team.
Ki had already done exactly tthesame thing only in their half. So by your standards he sssshould be sent packing.
All players do it almost everygame. Morons only notice when it leads to a goal ala oshea earlier this year

So why did Cattermole, who is not exactly a quiet retiring type, not blast Dossena for his crap, underweighted pass? And why did Dossena pass the ball to him? I'll tell you why. Cattermole frequently takes passes and first times them back to the goalkeeper or another player. That is good awareness from a player in a central midfield role. On this occasion he didn't but chose to control the ball. He mistimed his control and missed the ball. On another occasion (at least) he tried to turn his man only to have the ball taken off him. He seems to over rate his own ability as he doesn't have the skill to play such close control football. His game is moving into space, receiving the ball then moving it on quickly.[DOUBLEPOST=1388687652][/DOUBLEPOST]

Any defender or defensive player knows you never take chances as the last man. Cattermole made a mess of it. That's all.

I give up, clearly roberge is going to win fans player of the season.

Was it shite man. Cattermole 100% to blame

But obviously Roberge fits into the 'easy target' camp so let's just blame him instead

We all see players miscontrolling balls but I was replying to the op saying it was roberge at fault, it wasn't. Cattermole should have controlled a pass like that.

Oh, please, he could have passed it first time to Mannone if he was really concerned about the quality of the pass.

I agree as shoul of ki 2 mins earlier and 99 times out of a hundred they both would. It was a mistake that cost us but let him who is withiut sin cast the first stone I I say.

the thing is Cattermole came back into a defensive area looking for the ball probably doing what poyet was telling them to do (passing game) he would have known at least one villa player would have followed him. his control was shite nothing wrong with the pass, if he felt under pressure he should have passed it back to roberge or booted it out but he tried to be clever right in front of his goal.

Bollocks, it's an opinion. Roberge made a bad decision under no pressure.
What if a Villa player had threw a crossfield pass in with very little pace straight at Cattermole and it went under him is that Villa's fault, you have teams launching 40 yard crossfield passes and players killing it dead and we have to have a safe passing policy at ten yards:lol:[DOUBLEPOST=1388739001][/DOUBLEPOST]

Got ya!so he should have moved a foot to the left before the ball arrived. Not exactly difficult

Just seen it back for the first time. Cattermole should easily have been able to control that but he wasn't expecting it having gestured for Roberge to play it over his head. But I'd have thought that was a riskier pass than to Cattermole.

You could ask why Cattermole was sitting on Agbonlahor instead of giving Roberge a better option.

The goal was a symptom of a side struggling very badly though. Any confidence they get is fragile and drains away at the first problem. We got back into v Cardiff simply because they were so nervous and ended up standing on Marshall's toes.

Villa picked up on our passing after 10 mins and closed Roberge/Catts/Diakite down ever chance they got. After the goal, same thing nearly happened 2 more times with a panic pass to Catts who was already under pressure.

Maybe the ull backs should not have been for far up the pitch when we have the ball so deep??

The trouble is Poyet has started a revolution in playing style half way through a season with someone else's players.

Agreed mate. Some players seem to be trying to get used to it. Others are not. Its been with Sunderland for ages that for some reason our players dont want the ball. they do their best to pass it on.

Catts showed for it and fûcked up, browns free to play again now
No...your dead wrong their. I've watched it a good few times now and Cattermole was switched off expecting the ball to be lumped forward....the very thing Gus was not doing over the past games since he took over.. Cattermole was asleep...
