Our view of Lee Johnson

He's shite and we'll all doomed apparently. We might as well just give up. It's hopeless.

Or we could give him a chance. And if we think he's shite we can get our pitchforks out.

If he can make a team out of this group of l players, then we he's a genius like.

The fan who said, ‘Sunderland....who are arguably a bigger club than ourselves.’
Yes, we’re currently at our lowest point in our history but FFS, I’m all ears to any one argument a Bristol City fan can give that they are a bigger club than SAFC.

I think he meant you are arguably still a better option than us at the moment.

I get the impression LJ would back himself to lead any team to promotion from any league. I think we need a little bit of that single minded determination as opposed to the single minded stubbornness we’ve endured for a good old while.

edit: scrap that, Wigan f***ing scored while I was typing it. Johnson out.

Just having a browse and what I think you need is another opinion of a Bristol City fan. So here it is.

The Good:

- improved our league position year on year.
- made a couple of good signings and sold a few players at substantial profit.
- played some great football in his early days with us, most notably the high press style that resulted in the league cup run and beating of Man Utd and running Man City close over 2 legs.

The Bad:

- The high press game vanished. Thin air. Nothing. Replaced by a style that to this date is largely indescribable, no matter how much he referred to our “identity”. Expect in time to have no idea what your teams tactics or strengths are, because LJ didn’t know ours after 4 seasons.

- The tombola. Expect random team selections. Players in form dropped, players brought in for one match and dropped again. Players regularly played out of position when you have position specialists on the bench or not in the match day squad. He’ll setup to nullify the opposition as opposed to imposing your game on them

-Bullsh*t Bingo. Expect David Brent levels of cringe as he tries to explain his tactics and “identity” to your vastly inferior footballing minds. If you like.

Streaky Lee. Expect winning runs and long losing runs and not much in between.

Blame game. Players, grass length, crowd noise and choice of songs, weather and horoscopes. Never his fault for a loss.

Transfers. Some good, many terrible. 55 players in 4 seasons and no real identity to our style of play. Some never even played (Sammie Szmodics, Hakeeb Adelakun, Marley Watkins etc).

Coaching approach. Drones, grass length (again), tv’s on the training pitch, talking to A&E doctors and military interrogators. He loves to think of himself as a people management mastermind. All well and good if you’ve nailed the basics of football
Coaching in the first part with a well drilled side, but it seemed to cloud his main role and the players looked largely confused or scared to get this wrong.

I can’t argue with our improvement of league position under his tenure but it was a long 4 seasons at times. Also interesting that we’re currently doing better since his sacking with a less experienced coach, with largely the same players.

good luck for your season. I’ll keep an eye on you and cringe with you in his post match pressers.

The first year we signed Campbell,Bent, Cattermole, Cana, Turner and Mensah. Clearly good. He signed other good players too

Bent & to an extent Cattermole & Cana I'd accept but come on...

Turner was a donkey. Mensah was a perpetual sicknote who could only manage 1 game in 3. Campbell was a nice enough lad but wasn't Premier League quality.

Bruce's scattergun policy landed us with shite on huge wages that crippled the clubs ability to get rid of them or sign better players for a long time after he'd gone & his last transfer window was an absolute disaster.
