Our undisclosed transfer fees

I think we're going for low upfront with some high add ons.

Say Jack Clarke, rumours are £4 million.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's £1 mill upfront, then appearances fees at 25, 50 & 75 games. A goal bonus once he hits 10 goals and a big (25-30%) sell on fee - not on profit but revenue.

I can't see us signing some of the players we have without hefty sell on fees.

It's a win win. If the players shit, we don't pay the add ons or sell on fee so pay less. If the players good the selling club get the full amount plus a fee when we sell them.

Seems to tie in with the way the club are operating.

So what you are saying we havent spent much of this years budget on players then?
Irrespective of the timing of payments, the full value of the transfer represents funds the club is then committed to pay. If the total fee is £3m before add-ons, that's the fee. You don't compile accounts on a cash basis.

Alex Neil is clearly a lying little shit house.

But if the fees aren't as big as first thought that's excellent by Speakman et al.

No idea why Neil thought it would be good spin for him

I'm not struggling with the concept at all. I am "struggling" with the idea that for our club. it's a good idea to take decision making power away from the most experienced and qualified person in the building, and give it to someone with no experience in senior football whatsoever, in any capacity. That's nuts. By the end of the window, we might well see that both of Speakman's signings from January deadline day are no longer at the club, whilst the bloke he tried to force out that same day (Gooch) is an integral part of the team. Hardly a glowing endorsement.
That isn't really what is happening. A DoF doesn't have to be able to judge how good a player is, he has to hire a team with the expertise to provide the information. It is the same in any field, my Director certainly can't do the work I do, but is adept at making decisions based on the information and context I provide.

Assuming that a head coach/manager is a top scout because he is tactically sound and gets the most out of his team is a bit of a leap.

So how isn’t it a problem for other clubs (now in the PL) to make a success of it using the same set up ? It’s no longer the 1970’s where the “manager” makes all the decisions. Player’s brought in last January will have been to help get us out of L1. We’re now in the championship where the dynamic is completely different. By your logic we should be competing at a higher lever with L1 players signed last January.A quick look shows Brentford’s D of F Phil Giles, had no previous football experience at all yet look what they have achieved.
But the model says we will make a profit on them. Right?

Is that not an artificial paper exercise? im saying the fee will be nominal 600 thousand say and the deal will involve a 50% sell on clause no figures in monetary term just a %.. the 600 thousand comes out of the yearly budget and we get less of a chunk of the sell on fee..do they link that deal in accounting or are the separate ?

The rumoured figure is £3m up front with substantial add-ons. Add-ons are only accounted for as they are triggered, and shown as a note only. As for artificial, it's known as the accruals basis of accounting, and is totally standard in accounting in any business bigger than a whelk stall (and possibly even then). One of the underlying principles is that you recognise liabilities as soon as they are known, and they are shown as a creditor until they're paid.

I flicked on SSN over the weekend even though its shite now. They have Jack Clarke on the side of the screen down as £2.5m
