our fans obsession with sacking people

Aye it is just shows how shit hes done since 37 of them were on the board and we have managed a massive 4 out of the last 30 on offer.

Or how good a job he did at the start of the season. Seasons have ups and downs. Ours just seems to go with a major up and then a major down rather than more smaller ones.

Maybe we should judge over a season then, as anyone can pick a time period and say however many points out of whatever. 3 out of 3, get in.

I've been mega critical of Bruce, and think there's lots that need to be scrutinised and looked at in the summer, but the points gained over the course of a season is the only way to assess it.

You saying four out of 30 is as valid as me saying 21 out of 30, or whatever our best run has been - they both have equal merit - I.e none.

We have a large modern stadium, a large and passionate fan base, a rich owner, a nice chairman and a Manager that has had tens of millions to spend.

Yesterday we had a 6 pointer relegation battle. Now I am all for cheering the win yesterday but anyone that thinks this is acceptable is wrong. We are so used to shit that we don't expect anything else.

The squad is a mess, the transfer policy is a shambles, it's just not good enough and I for one am not a happy Sunderland fan.

I agree that the fact it was a relegation six pointer is unacceptable.
However I believe the squad and the transfer policies are good, and we'll continue to see them develop.

The squads the best we've had in many a year.

Totally disagree with that mate. If anything it can lead to complacency.

In Reid's second 7th place season, Ipswich were fifth but were relegated the following season and if Sunderland fans weren't so busy crowing over our best finish for fourty years they may have been a little more aware of Reids limitations.

Even finishing just one place above relegated Ipswich the following season didn't alert the lemmings among our support.

Seems like some Sunderland supporters never learn

You are f***ing clueless marra.

Fuck me, wish we had huchinson, schwarz, superkev, quinny, gray and makin now...even craddock to settle things, maybe thome anarl.

summerbee, johnson.....??

Actually more i think of it how many of todays team get in the 1999-2001 team.

f***ing think before posting shite.

your f***ing talking shite mate you seen the ability of that team when quinn retired! your comparing emerson thome and f***ing jody cradock to one of the best defenders at the last world cup hahahahahahahaha remind me of how many internationals they were in that team mate? thats for a reason u no

your just been nostalgic mate that team is not a fuckin patch on our team now excluding skp and quinn maybe shwartz at a push

Tell you what I think. I think that:

1. The chairman should stop telling people that he "despises" them,
2. Having spent tens of miillions of pounds the club should not be anywhere near relegation trouble
3. the club should stop blaming injuries for their shortcomings - they chose to have a small squad and have paid for that policy
4. SAFC should put a decent side out in the cups and know what - try to win a game.
5. stop talking a good game and actually deliver something - where it matters - on the pitch, not off it
6. when the owner next appears he might refrain from littering his utterances with the "relegation" word

...you know, things like that.....

You should stop there. Every other aspect you talk about stems from there. Your opinions on all these issues were completely different until Niall Quinn told you that he despised you. Prior to that Steve Bruce was a top manager for Sunderland - 'a proper football manager for the first time in decades'. Just because there are times when you cant be arsed to support the lads because you would rather be in the pub doesnt mean that gross spend is more significant than net spend. If a manager is only spending in line with what he is selling then that is a helluva lot different to what happened with Keane who was basically allowed to spend what he liked.

Its a fair point / good point in fact. I still think if a manager takes you from 17th to 13th to say 9th in consecutive years without a big net spend it would be harsh to sack him even if you acknowledge the very obvious flaws in his management.

MBH's argument is as follows;

We should have a large squad, assembled for little-to-no money, that regularly reaches the latter stages of cup competitions and qualifies for Europe. The missing factor is 'motivation'.

Thank Christ the club continue to reject this bloke's CV.

Because SAFC has an obsession with being utterly crap and trying to pass it off as success. Once more a season has been allowed to fizzle out into nothing. However everyone seems pleased about it so maybe I'm judging this one wrong.

some people were singing 'we are staying up, we are staying up' after the game on Saturday!
