Our cross field long passing tonight

Our formation plays right into this, with Hume and Onien always on each touchline when we're in possession. If we play against a back 4, the opposition have to make a decision which is ultimately lose/lose for them. Either their fullbacks play narrow and cover Wyke/Gooch/Maguire through the centre. Or they play wide and cover Onien and Hume. Last night Rochdale decided to play very narrow and stop us playing through the middle. The amount of space this opened up for our wing backs led to us winning the game, look at the goals for perfect examples of this.

It’s almost like the tactic and formation have been implemented to be mutually beneficial. What is this witchcraft?

As the same players some on here are raving about from last night have proved time and time and time again on countless other occasions.
I know that our players aren't great that's why they are playing in league 1 but tbf they are playing well in the last 2 months and last night the passing was excellent

Not at this level. Ipswich pressed us all over the pitch 1st half on Saturday and we barley strung a pass together. A decent press against average players really negates them

Rochdale just say back last night and barely pressed us anywhere in the pitch. Easily the worst side we've faced this season. Even Southend and Bolton made it much more difficult for us. We absolutely strolled through that game last night.

That's a generalisation. They're professional footballers playing at a good level. If the opposition get the press wrong, we should be able to exploit that successfully, on occasions at least. You're right that we've struggled against it at times this season - I'd say Doncaster did one of the best jobs at our place recently.

Interestingly, Doncaster sar back and looked to counter at their place, which resulted in one of our best away performances of the season. And it backs up your point.

It shouldn't be an issue if you have a defensive midfielder or two. And teams will know how we line up by now.
